Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan and Natalie Noiman.
Nathan and Natalie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sugarloaf Lane started like most businesses, as an idea. We set out to provide a quality cake to people without all of the animal products. No milk. No butter. No eggs. What we noticed baking from home in the beginning was that there was a demand for vegan pastries but more so gluten-free or what we now call Gluten-Friendly.
After three to four months of trying to sell our pastries wherever we got frustrated because we would either sell out or not sell out because we had leftover. Things were very inconsistent.
Then came the idea to sell to coffee shops. Our pastries are quite good with a hot beverage. Our first account was Provision Coffee (their first location was in Chandler/Gilbert at the Palette Collective. We now work with almost 2 dozen local businesses around Phoenix and the East Valley!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No. From the beginning, we have always had a grassroots ideology, a bootstrapping mindset if you will. Getting things from a small scale to a big scale encompasses lessons of all types. We have sought counsel and asked questions to more veteran business owners all around the East Valley. From plumbing issues, sourcing the best possible ingredients for our pastries to being on the right side of the law. As a business owner new problems develop every day, it is how we deal with these problems that dictate our success and growth.
Please tell us about your business.
Sugarloaf Lane is an all vegan bakery currently based out of Chandler, AZ. We make a great cake which happens to be plant-based. We have come to specialize in Gluten-Friendly pastries, our best seller the Cherry Bakewell was re-engineered because people were asking for no gluten. People know us for our Cinnamon Rolls (we were featured in the New Times but through one of the coffee shops we sell to) our Sea Salt Chocolate brownie and our Lemon Olive Oil Loaves.
We can provide a large swath of the community with great cake (and they don’t even know its vegan) to make them feel like kids again. Even if they can’t have dairy, eggs, gluten, sugar, they can come to us and still feel normal!

There have been many people to help us along our way and we are very thankful. I know I am missing some people but this is the shortlist and it’s not that short. From the coffee shops, we first started with mentors to the community leaders to friends and employees. Everyone has been instrumental in our growth and we are so grateful. Blessed to be exact!
