Meet Nathan Morrison

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Morrison.

Nathan morrison

Hi Nathan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been working for and with artists for over 30 years. I started with a friend who was a professional artist as an assistant helping with setups and teardowns in Alaska. This is where I first experienced going to art shows. In my 20s, I started a small fabrication business in Seattle, Washington, where I won awards for the creations I designed.

When I moved to Phoenix, my muse had all but left me, and finding my spark of creation seemed like a distant memory. I wondered if I ever would feel the joy of creation once again. As time went on, the technology of the world changed, and digital design techniques became more prevalent; I started hearing that old familiar voice calling to me again, only this time, technology had reached a point in which I could bring anything into the real world. The siren song of creation was sung to me again, and the flood of creation overwhelmed me with possibilities.

I started hosting open craft nights at my home, which later transitioned into an art and maker space for anyone who wanted to come and learn, teach, or just create. Upon seeing the talent I was surrounded with, I started to ask why the talents of my friends were not out there to be shared with those who would love it. I decided to start my company, Fox Den Contrivance. It is a place for those who are neurodivergent to be able to come and have all the difficult parts of selling their work done for them, so they could just focus on the most important part, the creation of art, and we would handle all the rest for them.

With the goal of getting their work out to those who would love their creations and would never have had an opportunity to experience it otherwise. We at Fox Den Contrivance exist for those who, for whatever reason, don’t have the ability to market themselves. This company is about community, not just financial gain. I am proud to bring the incredible talent of those who would otherwise have never been seen and to bring their beauty out from obscurity into a world that is a little less dark because of the light they bring.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nero’s divergent issues are a hurdle in and of itself. Every artist I’ve helped has said the same thing to me. “Why my art. My work is not any good. No one will want it”.

The change in them when they sell their first piece and realize people want what they offer is worth more than all the gold in the world, but keeping them feeling positive about what they’re doing is a hurdle in itself.

Balancing life, a full-time day job, production, booking, and working shows is difficult for one person to handle. This is the first time I’ve attempted something of this scope, and even after two years, I’m still learning and trying to figure out how all this is supposed to work.

We’ve been impressed with Fox Den, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart?
Fox Den is as much a community as it is a business. We represent those who can’t represent themselves. I was raised in an environment that taught me how to be a social person and I now bring those skills to use in the best way I could marketing their art.

We specialize in all forms of art, from imagery and fabrication to performance. The years I’ve spent in the artistic community have given me the ability to get anything produced. If I don’t have what is needed on contract, I have a connection to get it done in all manner of creation. We are a one-stop art shop. We can fit any show or event. We are about the artist, not the end product. The goal is to connect you to the person, not just the work, so you can fully experience the beauty of creation.

Not just the end piece but the journey along the way. “We can make anything” at first was an anecdotal exaggeration, but as things progressed, I realized that this statement grows truer every day as we grow. This project is not about money; it’s about uplifting everyone. We can fulfill just about any kind of artistic request and will continue to grow and support the artistic community in the best way possible…

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
Do not give up. Sometimes, it will all seem too much.

Don’t look to the end. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Before you know it, you will look up, and what you thought was the finish line will be far in the past, and you will be more successful than you ever imagined you could be.
