Meet Natalie Wilkinson of Titan Clinical Research in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Wilkinson.

Natalie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From high school, I went to culinary school at Scottsdale Culinary Institute. After graduating from there, I worked as a pastry chef for about five years. Healthcare was always on the back of my mind. I felt I needed to do more with my career. I then left the culinary industry and obtained my CNA license so that I can work while going through nursing school. I graduated with my Associate’s Degree in Nursing and went straight to work as a Registered Nurse. I continued my education journey without stopping obtaining my bachelor’s in Nursing, as well as Wound Care Certification, then finally my Nurse Practitioner License. After working as a Nurse Practitioner for two years, I had the opportunity to get into the research aspect of Healthcare. I then joined the team at Titan Clinical Research as a research investigator in local, national, and international research studies.

Has it been a smooth road?
Struggles along the way was the big pay cut I took to become a nursing assistant from pastry chef. I needed to make the switch so that my career would have more growth than in the culinary industry. In addition, I have always had a passion for healthcare. That pay cut forced me to sell a couple of the horses we had, as well as minimize all unnecessary expenses such as eating out, satellite TV and competing in horse shows. At that time, I had a young child who we also had the expense of daycare. He had to go to daycare three days a week so that we could work. My husband and I staggered our schedules as much as we could to help with daycare expenses. Another struggle I faced was the multiple people including some leadership at the hospital that I worked at telling me that I wouldn’t be able to accomplish such degree and that I was not ready to take on the task. I had to ignore them and prove them wrong.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Titan Clinical Research story. Tell us more about the business.
Titan Clinical Research conducts clinical trials with pharmaceutical companies both nationally and internationally. All of our studies are closely monitored by the FDA. The thing that sets us apart from other research companies is that we are a team of physicians, nurse practitioners, research coordinators, and med students. We don’t just specialize in one field of medicine- we do research studies pertaining to wound care, dermatology, neurology, infectious diseases, pain management, cardiology, and pediatrics. We also take pride in taking care of the patients like real people rather than just a subject or a number. At Titan Clinical Research, the priority is what is in the best interest of the patient.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The goal for the future is to expand the company to other cities and states so that other populations can benefit from the medical advances that come available.
