Meet Natalie Thornton of Cosmos Salon & Medspa in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Thornton.

Natalie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an AZ native. I always loved the creative outlet hair gave me. I had plenty of fun with my own hair and couldn’t wait to get my hands messy playing with others hair. After high school, I started cosmetology school at The International Academy of Hair Design. I got my cosmetology license in May 2011 and started working for Cosmos Salon & Medspa in December 2011. Seven years later I am a Master Stylist at Cosmos, I am pretty proud of my portfolio and I love the friends and clientele I have retained. Doing hair gives me the opportunity to make others feel beautiful. Being a Hairstylist is an art and I take alot of pride in my work and am always looking to grow! I am inspired daily with other stylist and trends I see. It’s such a fun environment and I love my career! When I’m not doing hair, I am a full-time wife, mom of three and mom to two fur babies!

Has it been a smooth road?
There are plenty of days I take my work home with me from tears, over thinking things or feeling like I could’ve done it differently. That’s the perfectionist in me and wishing I really was a magician sometimes. It’s what I signed up for, I have the crooked fingers, scarred knuckles, burnt fingertips and sore feet to prove it!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I love it all, colors, cuts and styles. My balayage/hair painting clients are lots of work but give me the most freedom to individualize each one. I like to have fun with my clippers and have been doing lots of undercut designs. I’m not one to say no to anything, the more the challenge, the more rewarding the outcome!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am a people person and I am always trying to think of my clients. Some days I feel like a therapist and I will always put my heart into everything I do.
