Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadia and Ernest Saco.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I are big fans of the show The Bachelor. While watching the show we fell in love with one of the contestants named Amanda Stantonn. On “after the final rose,” Amanda had a really great quote that we thought would make for a great t-shirt. We tweeted about possibly making a tee and we got a great response. Within 48 hours, we had a sample made and a rinky-dink website to sell our shirt. That’s how Mom Shirt Co began! The day we launched, Amanda Stantonn herself retweeted us which gave us a huge boost. The rest is history. We fell in love with creating t-shirts and we’ve been building our brand for three years.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is certainly a learning curve with starting a business you know nothing about! We learned a LOT. Especially in that first year. We learned about how to package and ship, how to manage customer service, etc. We were very green. But we love what we do and we have managed to figure things out along the way. We weren’t shy when it came to reaching out to other shop owners when we had questions. It’s also hard to balance work, parenthood, and owning a business. We have gotten used to those late nights packing orders, emailing customers, designing tees, etc. But that’s easy when you’re passionate!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
So, to put it simply, we create graphic tees for moms (along with prints and stickers). I think what sets us apart is that we have amazing customer service. We go above and beyond for our customers, to a RIDICULOUS extent at times. But in return, our customers are ridiculously loyal. Our repeat customer rate is 30% which is something we are extremely proud of! Also, we go to great lengths to create quality tees that are one of a kind. Our shirts are soft, they last forever, and the designs are unique. In a sea of mom tees that seem to look the same, we have managed to stand out by making motherhood look effortless and cool.
What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I think we definitely could have been more organized along the way. That’s something we’re still working on.
