Meet Alicia and Barbara King of A Mother and Daughter Boutique in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia and Barbara King.

Alicia and Barbara, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been working to support individuals with disabilities to gain independence in their personal and financial lives. I have always wondered what it would be like to own a business. I never would have imagined that this would be something I could obtain. I never had a lot of good self-esteem and or Personal motivation. However, All the people in my life over the years that I have had the pleasure of knowing and supporting helped inspire me to become a better person and business owner. I hope to one day become successful to the point of being able to give back to not only the disabled community but give back to everyone and help inspire those to feel powerful and beautiful no matter what! This is why I and my mom opened this business we want to truly make an impact on someone’s life by affording them the small things in life. Funny how a piece of jewelry and a luxurious bathroom will change someone’s life.

My mom and I have seen it time and time again. We currently utilize Facebook live as a selling platform and being able to connect to our customers makes all the difference! My mother and I have been blessed with getting to know many people around the country. Their stories of hardships and triumph have inspired us to take our business to the next level! We plan on in addition to offering beautiful jewelry we plan on offering affordable luxury beauty products to the everyday female and male.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road with every new opportunity comes hardships and bumps in the road. My mother and I look at this as an opportunity to challenge ourselves and learn. I know myself and mom included didn’t have much experience with inventory and shipping so this has been a challenge for us however I would venture to say we are now Turing into pros at this point! Aside from this learning to work with mom and mom learning to work with her daughter has presented some challenges. However, I know now my mom in a different light she has taught me not everything has to be so structured! And it’s ok to not always be in control of a situation. Overall it has improved both my mom’s and I’s relationships! This is am thankful for.

Please tell us about your business.
We sell jewelry and produce all-natural bath and beauty products. We generally sell on Facebook live which creates a unique shopping experience for our customers. They not only get to shop from the comfort of their own home but they also get to connect to the business owners (myself and mom) they get to know us and they share stories of success and stories of struggles. We develop a bond and our customers become friends with one another and they inspire each other every day!

Our customers love interacting with mom and I. Mom has quickly become known as the BLING mom and everyone calls her mom!! ☺️💕 they also will post beautiful selfie s with their jewelry and now we have customers taking selfies with their moms!! ☺️💕 I think that is building that connection and also making sure we are 100% attentive to our customers is what sets us aside.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Dressing up as a model with my mom and taking Polaroid selfies! Lol geez that may tell my age. 🤫
