Today we’d like to introduce you to MOON MANE.
Hi MOON, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In order to understand where MOONMANE comes from, you have to try and understand an entire culture of egalitarianism in revolt. Lots of small towns have musicians, and lots of musicians form bands. MOONMANE is four men who conduct the energy of honored spirits of the dead. Each member was stabbed to death and dragged to an undisclosed location where the band was formed. In that dank pit, they were ushered into unlife by dark forces beyond the ken of humankind. Then they practiced. With inhuman stamina and a generative power the likes of which has never been seen, the four MANES created music. Sound waves propagated into the bedrock of Earth. Likewise, the air and water were permeated with waveforms and met no diffusion. The fire, however, received these obscure and novel transmissions with predictable hunger. Thus, the Ghostflame was roused from its tomb and set about the work of awakening the other vestiges of elemental incarnation in the great void at the end of time.
But first, MOONMANE needed to cut a record. They navigated the MOONMOBILE to Memphis, Tennessee to exploit ancient leylines under Legendary Sun Studio. They recorded live in just one take. Then their singer went to bathroom to record the Vocal Tracks. At this exact three hours, the other MANES were in the gift shop playing cards (after hours). Then they began to have visions.
As the Dark Master was preoccupied with the singer in the bathroom, the doors were opened in the consciousnesses of the players.
ZOON, Lord of Apemen possessed the drummer.
Bobert, equipped with Infinite Power and No Consequences possessed the guitar player.
Francois Dubois, Scion of Gondwanaland possessed the bass player.
When the bathroom door swung wide and the rough tracks were all laid down, the Zombie Emperor backfilled in the available space in the souls of the players. The presence of the other entities was now felt. Too late, the singer became the spiritual lightning rod for Magmanar, molten Rock Knight.
Though his new cellmates were strong, they could not break the infernal grasp of the Green Wisps which emanate from Zoltane.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The Road. MOONMANE has traveled many miles to bring the music to the people. They have pumped the psychic water tables of many lands and came away with a cupful. Wisdom from The Road is precious and hard-won. Gas ain’t cheap. No one rides for free. Unless of course, you are an incorporeal entity from another dimension. The people who went to see MOONMANE were all affected. Some more than others. Some bought merch forged miles underground. But you can’t get the sound from a story. The way MOONMANE played, someone would invariably let them crash at their house. Sleep on the floor if you want to. It’s better than sleeping in the very haunted MOONMOBILE. The aura in there is so strong it drives vanilla people into MOONMANIA. Who can catch a glimpse of the terrifying vistas of reality and not flinch, though?
Changing tires, changing strings, taking turns driving and no one smells nice. It’s not for everyone. Empty rooms are still paying gigs if you can sell some merch on the sidewalk. New day, new town, and so the vibes are distributed.
Everywhere the music plays, the green wisps spiral ever closer to the domination of all matter. Eventually annihilating every particle with an equal and opposite antiparticle. The radius of the Purple Planet that spins with the Membrane shrinks as its power and influence swells.
If it was just earth in the balance, it wouldn’t be as dire a situation. But thirty planets dwell under the subordination of the Anti-Planet. Each has its own history and treasures ripe for plundering, or protecting.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
MOONMANE books shows and then plays those shows. They specialize in punk rock/hardcore with high themes of fear and its effects on daily life as well as eschatological teleometrics. As a band they’re known for hard rocking, custom outfits, the magical menacing MOONMOBILE, and their immaculate punctuality. Wherever they are summoned, they carry the war between chaos and order. MOONMANE is most proud of the human communities that enable them and bands like them to travel and share ideas in a safe respectful forum. All are welcome to fall on the blade of self-indulgence, and MOONMANE is skewered up to the hilt. Fantastic stories of space and time out of order fall on deaf ears. As do the cries for mercy. They will not stop. They will never surrender, for they are beyond death. They have been under the ice and walk the earth terrorizing villages with intelligent remarks.
What sets MOONMANE apart from other bands you may read about is their sense of style and their durability. They are masters of tone and tambre. Despite the weight of thirty worlds they remain humble and loud. Lowest of the low.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
There’s no business like show business and MOONMANE risks life and limb during acrobatic instrumentation and stage flips. The risk of going out on the road to play for strangers in strange places is the price paid to answer the call.
Every day on tour is marred by the trauma of near death experiences and blackouts. The struggle they face to alert the sleeping leviathan that dwells in the collective subconscious rages violently. Some call it madness, others can see the collateral damage from the war in heaven.
If the MOONMOBILE passes a body of water, they must fish it. Broken people like fissures of men pass them by. Freaks. Final Judgement. Rejection. Most people work to minimize the risks in their lives. MOONMANE tucks into impossible odds and faces the reality of work in a post-contact society. Risk is inherent above the ground that waits to swallow you up. Never know who or what will bite.
