Today we’d like to introduce you to Momo Kim.
Momo, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always wanted to share my food (and Korean food in general) to more people. I really wanted to open my business in Sedona, but at the time there weren’t any food trucks here. It was a long and tough journey, but working with the city, we became Sedona’s first food trailer.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a new kind of business always has its obstacles. It was even tougher because the City of Sedona did not allow food trucks at the time. However with help from our friends and the city, we were able to do it.
Even after we got started, being new to the food truck scene, we had to learn everything as we went. We’ve figured some things out but are learning new things every day.
Momo’s Kitchen – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My dishes often start with tradition then evolve with my own little twists. For example, one of our main dishes is Bibimbap. Although this is a well-known traditional dish, the ingredients and flavors may be a bit different than what you’d normally find in a restaurant.
I also think it’s very important to take care of our environment. Even a small food trailer like us uses thousands of single-use containers and utensils every month. That is why we only use eco friendly products, such as birch-wood sporks and biodegradable containers in place of single-use plastics.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Of course as a business, it’s important to be financially successful. But to be truly successful in my book, there needs to be something that satisfies one’s soul. In my case, I want to share with everyone how delicious and healthy Korean food really is.
