Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Zahn.
Molly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today
I am what I like to call a ‘Potentialist.’ I have always been pretty universal. I am good at many things, great at a few things, and have always been eager to learn a craft or trade. This is certainly not a bad thing, from a creative standpoint! However, when it comes to nailing down what you want to do with your life. The waters get a little muddy.
I tried my hand at college. That was such a struggle for me. To bare my soul a little bit, it made me question my abilities in every shape of the word. I was seeing my friends graduate, build their lives, and become successful, meanwhile, I was still struggling to pass classes and pay rent. It was a time in my life that was so overwhelmed with the confluence of other people’s opinions, self-doubt, and some unhealthy coping mechanisms. I decided to give it a rest for a bit and move back home to figure out what I wanted out of my life.
At this time, I decided to give restaurant management a shot! I surprised a lot of people, but mostly myself, with how good at it, I was! I found my competitive drive and used it to give it all I had. I moved up quickly, and have had the opportunity to work under a trusted mentor, travel, meet awesome colleagues, and learn SO much. I mean, I could be very content, in this career path, for a very long time but is ‘content’ really the end goal?
A current client of mine was looking for Social Media help and page management. I thought, “Hey, this would be a great side hustle and a way to stack some cash.” I took the job. This client is now a valued mentor of mine, and she put it in my mind that if you want something bad enough it’s already yours. Molly Zahn Social Media now has multiple clients and is growing quicker than I ever would have imagined.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am someone who has always tried to take the path of least resistance. I realized that this was my crutch for so long. It was my crutch in school, in relationships, and other aspects of my life. I decided I was due for a little hard work. When the decision came to growing MZ Social, I didn’t think. I just did. I couldn’t weigh the options too delicately, because I know myself, and I would have chickened out. I also had my Fiancé encouraging me, and showing me all of the support I needed to take a shot.
So, no. The road wasn’t exactly smooth, but anything worth anything shouldn’t come easily. It is the blood, sweat, and tears that give it value.
Tell us about your company. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
Molly Zahn Social Media is a Social Media Marketing company. Consisting of just little ‘ol me! I am a freelance Social Media Consultant who offers services ranging from page management to content creation, to one-on-one coaching.
I am still in the beginning stages of building my company, so a lot of it is touch-and-go. There are some aspects of the business that I thought I would have to outsource for, but I am learning a lot of it I can do myself, and do it very well! One of the things I specialize in is brand building, and content creation. I feel very strongly that your brand isn’t how you look. It’s how you make people feel. When consumers/clients come on to your social platforms, what are you saying to them? What is it about your branding that makes you memorable?
I would say, that in terms of what I am most proud of, is my originality. I am not an influencer or marketing expert. I am a creative and an artist. I am fully aware of how important the algorithm is for growth and trust me when I say, I have plenty of tricks; however, my focus lies within attracting an audience; not chasing one. I am an out-of-the-box thinker. So, yeah…I guess you could say that is what I pride myself on most.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Part of me wants to be basic and something like “You’re only successful if you’re happy,” or some other satisfying piece of wisdom. However, that isn’t what I believe. Successful people never settle. They stay hungry. They stay moving. Do they run into a problem? They fix it. They never back down. Their time is valuable, and they know that. They run to the finish line, they don’t walk. They hustle.
I haven’t always hustled, and I have, unfortunately, spent many years just waiting for something to fall into my lap. Then, one of my mentors taught me that you have to be a “wolf.” You have to go after what you want and push yourself. I believe through all of this, you show your true character…when you show your true character, you show your full potential; and when that happens? You can do anything.
