Meet Molly Gardner of Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Gardner.

Molly Gardner

Hi Molly, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came to the US about 8 years ago and fell in love with my work; all the curiosity of “How do Americans do music education?” brought me into a new chapter of my life. I am a music educator and a musician; I worked for about 7 years as a music teacher in China before I came here for my second master’s. The education system is different, and it is so fascinating for me to teach a brand-new philosophy. I started my piano studio about 5 years ago; I am honored to have so much love and support from my students and their families. It is a beautiful experience to share the love of making music with my students, regardless of their age, background, etc.; we can all start from zero, from how to read the music letters as “ABC” to the depth of aesthetic and the better understanding of all styles of music. I am so grateful for this music journey my students shared with me that I continue to learn to grow as a musician and a music teacher, be inspired by every moment of teaching, and thrive as a better person to bring more beautiful music into this world.

Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path, and if not, what challenges have you overcome?
Never. As a foreigner, there is never a moment you would feel secure and safe on some level. As an independent woman to start a brand new business, there are many times I wonder if I am pushing myself too hard. I only had a weekend of summer break. I have to be my accountant, receptionist, customer service, teacher, and manager of everything by myself. It’s never an easy day, but I have had so much fun and learned to grow so quickly to adapt to all the challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. Please tell us more about your work.

  • Teaching piano, primarily to younger children. Growing up learning classical music, I love to share the beauty of classical music with the younger generation and have a better understanding of all music.
  •  I enjoy what I do so very much that I want to share this not just with my students but also with whoever has an interest in becoming a music educator

What changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Build a better community of music making in the state of Arizona, different locations of my piano studio at other local cities
