Today we’d like to introduce you to Miss Opportunity Dejenaie Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dejenaie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was little, I always knew I wanted to help people. I wanted to create fun memorable experiences that allowed everyone not only to express themselves but profit. So, being the natural born leader that I am, I put myself in positions that could help people reach their full potential. I started off being President of Black Student Union at SMCC where I graduated with a Degree in Business. I put together events like Speak On It, speed dating, This is Me fashion, etc., teaching our members communication skills, accountability, confidence, respect, and consistency.
After graduating, I toke those same exact leadership skills to U of A Tucson campus, where I became an intern for a local clothing and Entertainment company called Blac Sheep. Working as an intern opened doors for me to be a model, PR Coordinator for BRAAG, and event coordinator local events. Although these where great opportunities I realized that this Entertainment industry is BEYOND RIDICULOUS! When you have self-worth and morals, this industry will put a sour taste in your mouth to the point you do NOT want to be a part of it. The rumors are true, I witnessed first hand people sell their bodies, friendships, characters, souls for a few likes or to be in the background of someone else.
I never wanted that for myself and most importantly didn’t want that for the teenagers and young adults I was mentoring! With that being said, I started my own entertainment company Key 2the Puzzle Entertainment that will give the same opportunities as the rest of the companies but without dehumanizing the our creatives. I believe we were all created differently for a reason. I feel like a woman, we shouldn’t have to be naked to be seen. As a man, you shouldn’t have to be hard to be respected. Your talent and character should speak for itself. PERIOD!
Having this type of attitude I was able to create a talk show Opportunity LIVE that interviews community/family based businesses, artist, creatives, dancers, anybody that is busting their asses to support the people around them. I have attracted a lot of like-minded people that are willing to support each other and grow. Even Jay Z said, “ We measure success by how many people successful next to you
Here we say you broke if everybody else broke except for you
Boss!”
Has it been a smooth road?
For the must part it was smoother than expected. I did have troubles in my first year learning how to balance entrepreneurship and a regular day to day job. Having to constantly make a decision to be responsible or sacrifice for something you love. I had to often remind myself, if I want to exit this hamster wheel of working for someone else and not going anywhere I have to let go on some of my security in order to take the right steps. It’s all worth it in the end!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
Just like my name, I specialize in creating opportunities. I am a project manager if you tell me your dream I can create a plan for you to get started. Example, if you are just starting out such as a designer, musician, dancer, etc. I can put together a soft opening in front of different types of people for you to present to. People that can provide feedback, invest, donate, or even want to join you on your journey.
For those that are already running their business and brands, but need more exposure I have a talk show Opportunity LIVE that they can be interviewed in front of a LIVE audience or request their own personal episodes where we can go to their location and record. Episode participation can range from $100- $500 donations. I also have REP YA CITY MAGAZINE available where they can submit an AD! The magazine is currently sold in two locations and available via mail. ADs range from $20-$100 depending on size.
I also have a production team made up of different companies where we can help create 60sec commercials or short films! Prices range depending on what’s needed but we are always affordable.
What makes me different I that I genuinely want to see my clients grow. I believe there is enough money for us all to be successful if you are willing to work for it!
What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I love that my city is filled with talented people filled with amazing energy. I hate that we follow other trends rather supporting our own. It’s almost like we have to wait for validation to do something.
