Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Giger.
Miranda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I knew I wanted to do hair since I was about 13 years old. After high school, I enrolled in cosmetology school at Avalon in Mesa. I took the part-time program, so to complete 1600 hours, it took about two years! While in school, I discovered that I wasn’t the biggest fan of coloring or cutting hair. I struggled a bit to find my passion within the hair industry while in school, but eventually, I found out that I absolutely LOVE the art of styling and finishing hair!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Going through school was a little difficult because part of the program was working the ‘floor’ which is basically a real salon, just with students. So, I had to perform a lot of chemical and cutting services, and I didn’t have very many chances to practice my styling skills, apart from on a mannequin head in my free time. Once I was done with school and licensed, I had a job at a cutting hair salon chain because I had been told all throughout the school that I ‘needed to work in a real salon to make money’. I left that salon quickly to follow my passion. Shortly after, I had got into a very well known blow dry bar and was severely mistreated because of my age and skill level. I wasn’t provided any training and was just thrown out on the floor to fend for myself! I met an experienced stylist at this salon, that took me under her wing, and mentored me. She eventually asked me to follow her to another blow dry bar (to which I’m still employed) that I met many amazing ladies at, that believed in me as a stylist and have taught me all of their secrets of the trade! I would say in the beginning, it was hard for me to find a place that ‘fitted me’. I had to go to a few different places to find my home, and 2 years later, I am at my home salon!
I opened La’Gorgeous beauty about a year into my career. I wanted to be able to provide my services outside the salon as well, but I mainly just wanted to be able to showcase my work to the world! Right now, I take the majority of my clients in the salon, but I am so thankful when people reach out to me personally and want to work with me!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
For the past two years, I have specialized in styling and makeup. Bridal, school dances, photo shoots, or just wanting to feel glam is my forte! I have worked hard to perfect my skill, and I still learn new things every day.
La’Gorgeous Beauty originally started with just hair and makeup, but now I am enrolled into esthetics school, to further my knowledge in the beauty field! I have added spray tanning to my menu, and will soon be adding skin care as well!
I also have just started a blog to share my beauty knowledge with the world! I am not in this industry to make money (although it is nice haha). I’m here because I want to help ladies and gentleman to feel the most beautiful that they can!
Whether I’m in the salon or spa, or on location, I will always pour my heart into my work and provide the very best experience that I can!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe you have to be passionate about what you’re doing. I feel if you’re not, it will show through your work.
