Meet Mikyla Harter of Scottsdale Candle Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikyla Harter.

Hi Mikyla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Mikyla (pronounced mik-eye-la), and I am the owner and operator of Scottsdale Candle Co. I started making candles in my backyard 4 years ago after working in the nightlife industry and seeing all these beautiful bottles tossed away. I always wanted to be an entrepreneur and quickly saw a way to help the environment, tap into my crafty homeschool side, and create something magical. Little did I know how far it would take me in four short years?

With only a little administrative and retail management background, I took the leap of faith to create candles full-time right off the bat. I built my website, made an Excel Sheet to track sales, and failed a few hundred times to create a well-burning candle. I was quickly running low on savings and jumped back into bartending while I continued building my business. Shortly after that, I was faced with COVID, and suddenly, I had no job and no candle sales. There were a few more bumps in the road, and I was finally busy enough during the Holiday season to keep myself afloat. A year later, I was in a warehouse, and currently, I am opening a Recycling Non-Profit Organization to help keep industry glass out of our landfills.

I truly believe in hard work and manifestation. I believe in myself every step of the way, waking up each morning to stay disciplined in my mission. I truly believe in creating candles that provide luxury, memories, and sustainability. I thank every person who’s been there, past and present.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Personal development is one of the biggest growth factors in building a business. You have to stay motivated and determined because struggles are inevitable for anybody! Overall I have been blessed with a fairly smooth road, and I turn my struggle into more growth.

As you know, we’re big fans of Scottsdale Candle Co. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Scottsdale Candle Co is more than just candles. It represents sustainability through recycling. It holds connections through the stories from these bottles shared amongst friends and relationships. It holds memories and keeps those alive through a form of physical art. At SCCo, our process starts with hand cutting and goes through a vigorous 6 steps to create a beautiful and polished edge. We then hand wash and fill with 100% soy wax with a grapefruit mango signature scent. They are clean burning, and luxurious! What sets us apart is the quality and care that goes into each one. Whether it’s your special bottle you want to be turned into a candle or one of our many recycled options, we will surely provide a unique candle experience for you!

It’s incredible how much opportunity I’ve had simply from that and combined with working hard in your business and yourself because it all starts with you.
