Meet Mikey Sarratt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Sarratt.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always loved seeing old sailor tattoos since I can remember and I always Knew I wanted to have lots of tattoos. So as soon as I was able to I started getting tattooed by Phil Roberson. We ended up becoming good friends. We both loved old cars and old-style tattoos. So, after about two years I asked if he would teach me to Tattoo. And to my surprise he said yes and that started my apprenticeship. It was super tough cleaning scrubbing tubes and basically doing whatever all the guys asked me to do and spending 60 70 hours a week at the shop. But it was worth every second. I was on my way to learning to Tattoo that was 14 years ago and it seems like it was yesterday.

Please tell us about your art.
I mainly do traditional Americana tattoos with my own style added in there for good measure. I’m inspired by all the old sailor tattooers and all the new ones that are putting out some of the cleanest tattoos that anyone has ever seen. My goal is to put tattoos on people that will look great and stand the test of time. So, when they are old and wrinkled you still know it’s an eagle or a panther.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
For me success is having my clients come to me and Give me their ideas for a tattoo and they trust that I will come up with a drawing and tattoo that they will love. And one of the biggest successes you can have is when your clients take handfuls of your business cards and they love to hand them out and tell everyone who did their Tattoo. To me that’s one of the most flattering things in this business
