Meet Mike Nye of Mike Nye Instrument Repair in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike N ye.

Mike, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started Business life in the grocery Business for 15 years. Moved on to go to repair school for musical instruments in Iowa. Came back from school and worked at Al Star music for a year and a half. Moved to Milano Music where I worked a year and a half. Started my own business out of my house. Did that for 15 years as we never stopped growing. 15 years later I moved to a store front with just me and a secretary. We3 continue to grow every year. We now have 4 techs and two office staff/ managers. We do tons of schools, stores, private players, from students to professionals.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Pretty smooth for the most part. Strong management and customer service skills from Fry’s Food Stores have helped me along the way.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Mike Nye Instrument Repair story. Tell us more about the business.
Our business is not tied to a retail outlet, although we do some retail sales. We are a repair shop for woodwinds and brass instruments. All brands. We also do used and new sales as well as some accessories.

What sets us apart?
1). All techs continue to get 2-3 times a year clinics and classes to stay current on tooling and techniques.
2). AL of our customers are treated like family.
3). We NEVER EVER go over our estimates.
4). Most repairs are 2-3 day turnaround most the year.
5). I do all the estimates and play every instrument that is repaired to insure the best results.
6). We have no “will not work on list”. We are good enough to make even yukkie instruments play…most the time.
7). If we are unable to fix, we do not charge. Ever.
8). We do what we say we are going to do, when we said we would do it, and for how much we said, Always.

Most proud of the quality of the people we employ and the people we serve. We have the best people and the best customers. Best. Job. Ever.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I put my faith and trust in God. He has guided, directed and led me down so many amazing paths. It is HIS business and mine to not mess up. The challenges getting to this point would force me to speak ill towards former employers, but each time bad things happened, God always had a better plan.

Best group of techs in Arizona……………..of course I’m a little prejudice as he is my brother. Honest, good service always, that’s the mantra.
