Meet Michelle Barraza of Atlas Health Medical Group in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Barraza.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Miami, FL in a bilingual home with Colombian parents. I went to the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in psychology and pre-medical sciences. From a young age, I have always wanted to help others. The idea to become a physician actually came from my father when I was younger; and seemed to fit the older I became with my affinity towards the sciences. Then in high school my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. I saw first-hand how the allopathic medical model was falling short to provide him with the care that he deserved and required to become well. While in my freshman year of college, my good friend told me about Naturopathic Medicine. I started researching and learned the foundation of Naturopathic Medicine is to find the root cause of disease and provide treatments to help support the body’s own ability to heal itself. Soon after, I embarked on a journey across the country to start my studies in Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona. Once graduating from medical school, I co-founded Atlas Health Medical Group with my partner.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Completing medical school was one of my most challenging achievements. There were moments when I had to really remind myself why I was going through the medical program– to help others navigate through their health challenges. I have been fortunate to have experience the gratitude and relief a patient has when their treatments are finally going towards the right direction and they are improving. Knowing I have helped someone so profoundly empowers me and motivates me toward any struggle and challenge I face now.

Atlas Health Medical Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I currently practice in Gilbert, AZ with a focus in women’s medicine, autoimmune disease, chronic disease, and fatigue. My passion is helping people achieve their optimal, dynamic state of health and wellness. My overall goal with every patient is to guide and empower them so they may fulfill their own unique purpose and life fulfillment.

As a company, I am most proud of putting the patient first, and hearing patients tell us that we are the first doctors to actually listen to them and take the time to be thorough with the complexities of their case. Our visits usually last up to 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on their case. We take the time to research their case before the patient comes in and provide personalized treatment plans for each one of our patients. This means we don’t use “cookbook” protocols, but understand that every patient is different and that they deserve their own personalized treatment plan to address their health concerns.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment in my career so far has been the gratitude I have received from patients when they tell me no other doctor has ever listened as well, asked as many questions or taken as much time to understand their health concerns. The gratitude from patients is by far the best reward and continues to motivate me going forward.
