Meet MichaelJohn Roach of Dance Show With MJR in East Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to MichaelJohn Roach.

MichaelJohn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in radio at the age of 16 in 2011 at the East Valley Institute Of Technology radio station 90.7 The Goldmine (KVIT-FM) under the guidance of my mentor and GM of The station Steve Grosz. I Started out by Learning the ins and outs of how radio is put together and how to do it correctly and professionally. I stayed at that radio station till 2014 when I decided to start Dance Show With MJR which is an EDM radio show that plays Electronic Dance Music. It originally started as an online-only radio show because at the time I didn’t know how radio syndication worked.

Over the next few years, I worked at KFXY-FM in Mesa and also spent time doing weekends at Hot 97.5 & 103.9 along with Power 98.3 in Phoenix owned by Riviera Broadcasting. In December 2017 I got my first affiliate for my EDM radio show being KVFX-FM in Salt Lake City/Logan, Utah and by the end of 2018 I was on 24 total affiliates including 3 here in Arizona being 88.7 The Pulse (KPNG-FM) Phoenix/Tucson, The Q 102.9 (KQST-FM) Flagstaff/Northern AZ and 100.9 The Peach (KWLP-FM) Kingman.

The radio show in its current form plays EDM and Remixes of radio hits and airs every weekend on 24 stations across 15 U.S. States and four total countries being USA, Germany, Cayman Islands, and the Netherlands. I am now 24 and have done radio eight years here In Phoenix and now Arizona as a whole.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, one of the struggles has been adapting to the ever-changing world of radio. By having to not just do radio but by having to build up a social media presence which I now have 11.6K Twitter followers which I use to produce video content of the behind the scenes work that goes into the weekly task of building a Dance Show With MJR episode and to have an audience to speak with and connect with 24/7/365.

Radio isn’t just being on the air anymore, but it now has Video and Audio Podcasts that have a wide range of formats and topics. Patience is something I have had to learn because anything worth doing doesn’t happen overnight and Patience is something you need if you want to succeed at anything.

Dance Show With MJR – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the others?
I host a weekly syndicated EDM (Electronic Dance Music) radio show that airs on 24 radio stations (three in Arizona) across 15 U.S. States and four countries Every weekend. I play music that not anyone can find on Terrestrial AM/FM Radio, and I also allow Local up and coming Artists/DJs the opportunity to get there music heard to a huge International audience.

I also use my Twitter following of 11,500+ to promote, engage and influence EDM music to new people. I’m very proud of the fact I have built Dance Show With MJR from the ground up with my own hard work. Getting a radio show on one let alone 24 radio stations is quite the feat in today’s ever-changing world of radio where people are losing their jobs due to consolidation.

I specialize in playing the best EDM music every week and never playing the same stuff. Everything you hear on my radio show is fresh and brand new each show. Being 24 and hosting a radio show let alone an EDM radio show on 24 affiliates out of my home is something ill always be very very proud of.

So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
To continue to provide my affiliates, Listeners, and audience with the best EDM music and radio shows possible. I would love to add more radio stations to my network and to continue building up my show and myself in the EDM community and in Arizona as well.
