Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Vizzerra.
Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in South Phoenix and moved around a lot. Between 1st and 12th grade I attended eight different schools. So stability wasn’t really taught during my formative years. Throughout those years my father started a company that was successful for a period of time and then was eventually closed. As a family, we saw the big ups of success and the lows of having top ramen for dinner. Again, not a lot of stability. I saw the stress financial instability can have on my families. The impact it had on me is crucial to my story. Anytime I made progress or gained something, I was afraid of losing it. So I made a lot of emotional decisions, Not always the best idea, especially when it comes to finances.
I got into the financial industry shortly after I proposed to my now wife. I wanted to be a good, stable husband and provider. I also wanted to help people I love and care about. I took my life and wanted to show as an example the long lasting effects instability can have on our children. By educating my clients on the importance of budgeting, have a verifiable plan and properly protecting yourself and your family, I have changed their lives to be more stress free. My clients are the owner of the team, I am the coach that leads that team to success with the day to day activities.
That’s the passion behind why I do what I do. That’s what has gotten me to be where I am at today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The success rate for my industry is small, 93% of people in my field quit in the first three years. We face rejection after rejection. Remember your first high school crush? How nervous were you to call them the first time? and when it rang, hoped they didn’t pick up? Now imagine you feel that ten times a day, except the person on the other side, is annoyed or even mad you interrupted their day. All because I want to see if there’s anything they need help with. That’s a small part of my day. Then there’s following up with potential clients, clients ghosting you after they did commit to planning, or even worse stringing you along for months and then nothing.
I don’t believe anyone has a smooth road, It’s how we react and adapt. Early in my career, I had the wrong mentor, then I was in an office that got bought out and everything changed. I’ve lost friends because they don’t want to go over a plan, or take their finances seriously. Family members ignore my calls because they think I’m trying to sell them something. I have given up nights with my family to do evening seminars an hour away.
Please tell us about your business.
PCRG was founded in 1998, and based out of Seattle. As a representative, I grow my book of business. All my clients are my own and work directly with me. I specialize in life transitions. If somebody gets engaged, married, buys a house or has a child. Their life and life plan will change and I help them with that change. We are known for planning software that gives our clients day to day access to their plan, their accounts and holdings. There is so much that our software can do, you’d really have to sit down and go over it. That’s one of the things that sets us apart as a company. What sets me apart from other advisers is my passion and purpose. Most think of the clients themselves. my approach is legacy and how to build wealth for the family and generation afterward, as well as maximizing the current situation for my clients.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, the one thing I would have done differently is talking to more people. I missed an opportunity to help a friend of mine and his family. He passed from cancer at 28 years old and I wish I would have spoken to him sooner rather than wait “for the right time”. Right now is the right time.
