Meet Michael Richau of BOOM! Percussion Entertainment in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Richau.

Michael, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
BOOM! began in 2007 with the vision of providing entertainment for corporate events. Since then, the company has expanded from a side business to a full time operation, serving Arizona and surrounding states.

When I started BOOM!, I was working full time as an elementary school music teacher. Because of the success of BOOM!,  I have left the teaching profession and currently run BOOM! full time. This allows me to provide undivided attention to each client and provide the best possible product.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running BOOM! as a side business allowed me to slowly build the company to the point where it became my full time job . There have been minor bumps along the way, but every one of those obstacles taught me new lessons.

Please tell us about BOOM! Percussion Entertainment.
BOOM! Percussion Entertainment provides surprise, energetic entertainment for large scale events with an LED Drumline, Marching Band, and LED Trashcan Percussion Ensemble.

Most clients originally reach out with the idea that they are getting a basic performance at their event based on their idea of a traditional drumline. What they actually receive is an hour long rock & roll concert condensed into a 10 minute, fast-paced, high-energy, choreographed, audience-interactive, humorous, memorable guest experience!

Although LED lighting is a current popular trend in entertainment, we’re proud to say that our performance routines aren’t based around the novelty of the LED lights.  The LED lighting simply enhances the bright, loud, fun character of the performers and the material in the routines.

Offering a variety of ensembles and costume options allows us to perform for virtually any occasion and match the color scheme or most popular event themes.

Our BOOM! ‘Signature’ Routines allow clients to receive a ‘tried and true’ performance that is sure to be a hit at their event. Our full time design team is also available to create custom productions as well.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I grew up in the ‘80s, so my favorite music was what is now considered ‘glam rock’ or ‘hair bands’.

This influenced my desire to be a musician, and I began playing drums at the age of 8 while playing along to the cassettes of my favorite bands.

I was not athletically or academically inclined in school, but playing music was my place to shine.
Drumming (music) gave me the opportunity to be that ‘rocker’ that I aspired to be and the confidence that I had my own special talent/ability that not many others possessed.

Music is what kept me in school, and I will always advocate for it to remain in schools.
