Meet Michael Coughlin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Coughlin.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was Born and raised in Phoenix AZ. The youngest of four, my entire family played music so it only made since I play music also. My father was in a band (The Lum Brothers) and so was my brother Brian (Kinch). After graduating from Arcadia high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I started taking music seriously in November of 2016 after realizing the traditional “go to college get a good job” route wasn’t for me. I dropped out of ASU and have been working towards my big goals and aspirations ever since.

Please tell us about your art.
I sing and play guitar. I love all sorts of music and I reflect that by making all sorts of music. I try as hard as I can to be as honest and authentic as possible with everything I write. I want people to be able to connect with me through my songs if it’s about something that relates to them, and if not something they can relate to I want them to be able to get a glimpse of what’s going on in my crazy brain. My artwork is how I cope with just about everything that’s going on in my life and around me.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
The biggest thing I do to keep myself going is make small goals and crush them. When you are at the point where it feels like you are going nowhere imagine yourself a year ago and how far you’ve come since then.
Every overnight success story started ten years ago.

People can find my work by typing in “MichaelCoughlinMusic” on any platform. If you like it enough to the point where you want to tell your friends about it, then you already support me. Word of mouth may be slow, but it’s powerful and organic growth, and that’s what matters to me.
