Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all! Foremost, in June 2023 I relocated from the midwest to Phoenix. The relocation was facilitated by a desire to expand my businesses into a larger market. A second challenge was stepping into a space where no one knows who I am. as you well know, it can be both daunting and challenging to enter a new creative arena. I started by reaching out to like minded creatives to see how and where I would fit in to this creative landscape. As an already-established artist and entrepreneur my footprint primarily was made in the midwest. Lastly, I had to come up with strategies, tactics and ingenuity to try and understand what would be my plan to infiltrate this new market.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I pour into my clientele by way of using my gift of hair artistry and active listening while providing a safe and elevated space for transparency and healing. My primary focus is healthy hair care and seamless undetectable extension installations. I am most known for what has become, “The Micah J/ Glam Gallery Experience”. A client should leave feeling as though they are seen, edified and released to fulfill their mission and life focus with confidence. I am most proud of my family, faith and business. I am a wife to my amazing supportive husband of 7 years and mother of a thriving 16 year old son. Secondly, I am proud of Glam Gallery, a faith based beauty brand that is comprised of Glam Gallery Salons, Glam Gallery Academy and Glam Gallery Collection. The over arching goal of my brand is to display art through glam! The GG Brand was birthed out of both hardship and trauma however; my ability to pivot, perservere and reinvest in myself as a creative and entrepreneur is what sets me apart. I am a 7x certified beauty industry professional and licensed educator.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up as the youngest of 5 children I was always characterized as an inquisitive and creative child. I was able to recite full lines of my favorite movie of all time Beauty and The Beast as a toddler. By the time I was 5 or 6 rather than playing “house” or “doctor” I would beg my friends to play “shop” with me and they complied. In this space, I would reimagine my baby dolls hair by cutting and styling them for a more refined and refreshed look. I have always visualized myself as a successful multitalented hairstylist and business owner making women feel beautiful. My first entrepreneurial endeavor was NU U Braids at just 12 years old servicing women and children in the basement of our family home. I have been blessed to have supportive parents that always saw the gift in me and nurtured it accordingly.
