Meet Micah Celestino

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micah Celestino.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was a little kid, my dad showed me a video of DJ Chuckie performing in Las Vegas and that inspired me to turn my passion for music into a career. I taught myself how to mix music with a DJ deck that my dad owned and I began to replicate what I saw DJs doing in videos.

I landed my first gig when I was 8 years old, which was a one-hour set at a lounge called Nakama. A few months later I played a homecoming dance and after that, I began performing regularly at school dances and community events. I also interviewed DJs for an internet radio show and learned all about their individual journeys and stories.

When I was 10, I regularly performed with Radio Disney for summer pool parties at The Wigwam Resort. The following year I attended Camp Spinoff, which completely changed my life. All the guys I met there have remained my close friends to this day. During my time there I also met a lot of well-known DJs in the industry including DJ Vice, who became my mentor and friend. He invited me to open for him at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas and I performed at his annual Vice on ICE party in Los Angeles.

I became the resident DJ at The Clubhouse in LA when I was 12, and that same year I was invited to perform at the Global Spin Awards in New York. I signed up for music production school when I was 13 and performed in my first 21+ club in New York when I was 16. Now I’m 20 and have multiple residences including Maya Day Club, The District, Wet Deck at The W, and Barstool Sports. I perform primarily at clubs and shows, and I’ve also been producing and putting out more music.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being one of the youngest DJs in the industry has presented some challenges, but it’s also been a blessing in disguise.

There are some clubs that I can’t perform in yet due to my age, but being so young with my level of experience has also helped me stand out from the crowd, which has opened up a lot of new opportunities for me. There’s also this assumption that since I’m a DJ I must be super outgoing and crazy, but in reality, I’m shyer and laid back, which I think comes as a surprise to many.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m very versatile when it comes to the music I play. I’ve always practiced being an open-format DJ and I can go from playing rock to hip-hop to the house—all within 30 minutes. I try to keep my energy levels as high as possible throughout the night. I play a lot of remixes as well and I like to be creative, making my own edits to a song and doing a bit of wordplay.

Every venue I play is different so I cater to the vibe of each place and what the people want whether it’s more laidback or super high energy. In the past year, I’ve gotten more into electronic music so I’m working on producing more EDM and house music.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If anyone wants to collaborate or connect, the best way to reach me is through Instagram.

I read all my messages and have met a lot of people that I’ve collaborated with that way. I also share information about my upcoming shows and projects on there, and post my latest mixes when I release more music.
