Meet Mendy Hoffman of Velocity Stylebar in Arcadia-44th St and Indian School Rd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mendy Hoffman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.

I have two amazing sons-one is a committed Army soldier (airborne) and the other is a loving daddy and did the drawing for Velocity stylebar – also, two wonderful step-sons.

I was born in Boise, Idaho and raised on a small farm. My career path was initially heading towards criminal justice. I worked at the Men’s prison in Idaho and went through the citizen police academy. My children’s father unexpectedly passed away from suicide in 2003 which left me as a single mom. I then took the opportunity to go to school. I began my career in Dermatology in 2005, assisting in general, cosmetic and Mohs Micrographic surgery. Ready to be residing in a bigger city with warmer weather, I moved to Arizona in 2011 where I assisted in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and was the Supervisor for that department at Southwest Skin Specialists for three years.

I then got inspired to start my own business with the help and support of my husband, who is a Luxury Home builder in the area. We opened Velocity stylebar in January of 2019 to provide a place for women/girls to be able to let their hair down and be spoiled where the experience is feeling and seeing the quality. We are unique in that we are locally owned and operated, we are not franchised driven and we carry gluten free, paraben free, vegan, and cruelty-free hair care products. We also have facial waxing available with a clear wax which is less irritating to the skin. The licensed stylists provide services for all ages and hair types. AND… we have our BYOB license for private events! Clients may book on our website, Facebook, Instagram, the Vagaro app, walk-in, or call us to book an appointment for blowouts, braids, waxing, and updos. Our blowouts include a shampoo, relaxing scalp massage and blow-dry/style. Velocity stylebar has memberships available for blowouts and braids.

ONE of my passions is empowering girls and women to love and accept themselves as they are.

I am very excited to continue this journey for myself, my family, those who work closely by my side and our community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Some of the struggles along the way we’re making the decision to leave Dermatology, learning the “how-tos” of starting a new business and hiring employees. My husband and I put the business together from the ground up-start to finish. Luckily, we have remodeled homes together. 🙂
