Meet Melissa Larned

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Larned.

Melissa, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started taking makeup serious in 2014, and from there I’ve expanded my beauty career by becoming an Aesthetician and a Laser Technician. I’ve always had a passion to help others feel beautiful and to help boost self confidence because I myself struggle with that. After becoming a mother, I’ve definitely incorporated the reality of post partum and motherhood into my posts as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. Just like everyone, I get discouraged thinking how maybe I’m not good enough, there are better people out there than me, and I’d fall behind on doing my makeup or I simply wouldn’t want to take clients (especially after having a baby). It’s so easy in the beauty world to compare yourself to others and feel like giving up, and I did want to give up. After having my son, it really made me want to help other moms see the reality of moms that are in the beauty community.

Please tell us about your work.
I specialize in skin and makeup. I book clients for makeup applications, I give people tips and tricks, and I (not at the moment) did facials from my home. I’m proud of the connections I’ve made with people in this community and how I still have the same clients always coming back. I think what sets me apart is my personality. I love to make others feel welcome, beautiful and of course to laugh. People can tell when someone is being genuine or not, and I’m definitely genuine about everything I do.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would make myself stick to keeping up with my posts every day. I struggled so much with that (sometimes still do). I also would take every client I could get rather than doubting myself at the moment and passing them to someone else I knew. I know I can do these things, and I’m still trying to work on it.
