Meet Melissa Cole of Three Feathers Earrings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Cole.

Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I originally started making earrings for a few close friends & family members as an outlet for anxiety and depression after being diagnosed with cancer. I was emotional and unable to sleep. I knew that I need something to take my mind off of everything that was happening. At the time I didn’t have any hobbies nor the interest in the ones that people were suggesting to me. After a good deal of trial and error, I was hooked.

The more earnings that I made, the more I was told me that I should start my own business doing this. The mere thought of that sounded terrifying. The actual decision to take the jump was rough considering the point when I started all this was to help relieve stress.

But all that stress turned into the drive to make Three Feathers Earrings as successful as I could. I am thrilled that all the hard work has lead me to get to this point. Now, along with the website my earrings are being carried in nine salons & boutiques across the valley.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This experience has been nothing short of fantastic! I have been very lucky to have met some of the most amazing local women small business owners. They have encouraged, supported and still continue to teach me so much along the way. To be surrounded by a tribe of genuine and caring women has truly given me the confidence to put myself & my business out into the world.

No matter how hard the struggle is some days, knowing that I showed up is a victory for me.

Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
Three Feathers Earrings is a local business that makes handmade, lightweight leather, wood & metal earrings. We use all genuine leather & hypoallergenic metals.

It is really exciting for me to make a product that makes people happy. I enjoy seeing the look on someone’s face when I’m a vendor at a local market or boutique when they connect with a pair of earrings that they love and are amazed over how lightweight they are. I think that comfort is an important aspect in fashion and people appreciate that I handmade all of them with that in mind.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am recently most proud of the incredible honor of winning Phoenix Magazine 2019 Best Jewelry Designer of the year!!!!!
