Meet Melinda Chang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Chang.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My passion for photography started two years ago during my junior year of high school. I took Digital Photo I as a class to fulfill a credit requirement and ended up loving it thanks to my teacher. Photography has become my #1 creative outlet, allowing me to passionately express emotions and visual concepts in an artful way. Through the entire process, I particularly learned to love meeting new people, playing around with edits, and visualizing future projects.

Please tell us about your work.
I have a passion for portraits and lifestyle photography. I take up to hundreds of photos in every occasion; each shutter click is another opportunity to creatively express myself. I hope people will be able to appreciate photography for the hard work that is put into the shooting, editing, and post-processing. My photos focus on visual aestheticism, the balance of colors, and subject composition.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
Although life for any artist is not easy or just a simple pathway, I think life for digital content creators has become more popular in the past few years, which paves the way for increasing support. Cities like ours can encourage artists to thrive by having consumers directly support through purchasing art or services. Visiting museums, providing constructive feedback, and appreciating local art is also a must.
