Meet Megan Shank

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Shank.

Megan, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have been doing makeup for almost 20 years.  As a young girl I found myself drawn to fashion magazines where I would focus on the hair and makeup for the models in the ads. Growing up I would practice on my friends and I started to get positive feedback on my technique. As I got older I really appreciated the art behind beauty, fashion and makeup. I can remember looking through the Kevin Aucoin book Face Forward dreaming of being as good as him, so I decided to attend Beauty school to perfect my skills. This lead me to work for brands like Origins, Aveada, Mac and Cover Fx. After years of education and training with these incredible brands I decided to go off and start my own makeup business.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a makeup artist that specializes in Photoshoots, Special events, Weddings and Bridal, and Fantasy. I also specialize in lessons for men and women both private and groups. I have always had an artistic eye, I knew I always wanted a career in fashion/beauty business. Doing makeup gives me so much joy because of the instant gratification, its also rewarding and challenging at the same time, no two days or clients are ever the same.

My favorite saying is “If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life”. I just want people to have confidence and feel good about themselves, not to say they need makeup to have that but I know for myself, when I look my best I feel my best.

How can artists connect with other artists?
The community for makeup artists is huge in phoenix. I have met some amazing connections and friends by working as a market trainer for cover fx. If you do not have that resource, Facebook has a group called cosmetic peeps you can join. It is for artists to connect with other artists.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I just did a photoshoot for bridal boudoir and I plan on doing more fashion spreads in the future. I will be featured in the April edition of AZ foothills magazine for the beautifiers edition.
