Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg McCleerey.
Meg started practicing massage in 2004 after graduating from the Arizona School of Massage Therapy with honors. Her primary focus was athletes. Having a BFA from University of Montana with emphasis in Dance and Teaching her Massage Therapy practice went hand in hand with coaching dance and gymnastics locally here in Scottsdale. After 10 years of Coaching and working with gymnasts and their families Meg retired from the gymnastics world and started working at Essential Touch located at Scottsdale Healthcare. Her practice grew here working on all types of people with different needs and illnesses. In 2011 she had the opportunity to take a Manual Lymphatic Drainage Course in Tempe from the Norton School. The Course specialized in Lymphedema and ways to help patients with this disease. From there Meg took a special interest in Oncology Massage and the benefits of massage for cancer patients. She became certified in regular Lymphatic technique and Cranial Sacral Balancing seeing the benefits of both modalities in her clients. She has recently added Cupping to her list of certifications. She received her advanced cupping Certification from the International Cupping Therapy Association. Cupping has taken Meg’s practice to a whole new level. The results she’s seeing especially in athletes is measurable, you can sometimes hear her say… should we put a cup on it?
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was very scary going out on my own. I always had in home therapy clients as I was working for Xtreme Gymnastics and the Hospital. Renting my own space and ripping off the band aid officially going out on my own was the most frightening thing I have done in my adult life. The constant what if’s plagued me daily. I was the owner, accountant, marketing director, housekeeping everything that goes along with being a solo entrepreneur. Once I surrendered to the universe and started to believe in myself the clients just kept calling. I practice gratefulness everyday. Always thanking the universe for giving me my gift of healing and sending people to me that truly need me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mcubed Massage – what should we know?
Mcubed Massage is named after my full name that is all M’s. M to the third power resonated with me for so many reasons. My name, massage, Montana where I’m from. All the letter M. So it was designed by fate that my business should be called Mcubed Massage. I graduated with honors from Arizona School of Massage Therapy and am a National Certified Body Worker. I also am a certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapist from the Norton School. I graduated from University of Montana with a BFA in Dance. Working with gymnasts here in Arizona I found my calling to be a Massage Therapist. With my expansive knowledge of how the body moves and works massage therapy was a natural progression. Gearing each massage to my client’s individual needs. I listen to their body and their story to help create healing and movement. I believe in regular massage to keep the body dancing through life.
I am most proud of my gift for knowing what my client needs. Finding the issue in the tissues or if they just need to be on my table in my capable hands of healing. As a dance major muscle memory is a key factor. With my clients I have the same muscle memory, I know their problem areas their favorite smells, what they love about massage as soon as I set hands on. It’s a dance and each client has its own choreography. I aim to help them find Peace and Balance in their busy lives.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Work Ethic. I was raised in a family with strong work ethic. When the going got tough you pull up your muck boots and wade thru the #@!& or Mud. My dad is a Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine) He installed you finish what you start. You show up and you do your best. Be honorable. My mom was the cheerleader, cheering me on with unending support and advice. When I would want to give up she always had a different way of looking at things to push me thru. She just wouldn’t let you quit.
