Meet Meagan Pinney and Ashley Allan of Your Jubilee Weddings & Events in Old Town Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Pinney and Ashley Allan.

Meagan and Ashley, please share your story with us.
Like most great ideas, Your Jubilee started over a happy hour… a rum & coke and vodka tonic to be exact! We were both planning in the corporate world but really felt drawn to be more creative and to the personal side of events. What better way than getting into an industry that celebrates peoples love? After months of networking, connecting with local creatives, and deciding on a name we launched Your Jubilee in April of 2014.

Even though we both had a background in logistics and design, neither of us really knew much about starting their own business. To build Your Jubilee, we really had to follow our gut, do a lot of research, and ask a lot of questions. Something that was very important to us while growing YJ was that the brand was an authentic reflection of both of us. Staying true to the name Jubilee, which means a spirited celebration, one of our core values is to celebrate throughout the planning process with our couples, not just on the big day. Due to this philosophy of creating a joyful experience, we made the process fun while navigating the speed bumps of starting a new business. Two years in, we both left our jobs to focus on Your Jubilee full time and open our office in Old Town Scottsdale. That’s when things really took off!

Over the last 5 years, Your Jubilee has grown from 6 events in our first year of business to regularly cultivating about 40 events per year. We are very grateful that we have been able to expand our team from the two of us to include 5 additional associate planners, that we lovely call rad humans and make up our team of Jubilettes!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No of course not, the road of building a small business isn’t always smooth, any entrepreneur that says it is has to be kidding themselves! For us, in the beginning, Your Jubilee was a strong side hustle! If we were working 40 hours a week that was a calm week! Once we decided to quit our jobs and commit to Your Jubilee full-time things seem to easily come together. When we got our office we felt like we were in the right location at the right time and our calendar began to fill up quickly.

One of our biggest struggles has been understanding our personal limitations. As people with a heart for service, working in the search industry it is sometimes hard to say no to projects. After our busiest year of weddings, an event that is intensely personal and emotional, we have realized we have to create some boundaries so that we can give each client 100% without feeling totally drained at the end of each season. Having our team of Jubilettes has helped share the load, along with creating processes and systems, and better defining our roles within the business not just as the lead planners.

Please tell us about Your Jubilee Weddings & Events.
Your Jubilee is a wedding and event planning company based out of Scottsdale, Arizona. We believe that life should be celebrated and celebrate each moment, big and small with our clients throughout the planning process. We are both Arizona natives and love this gorgeous state! We service a variety of local and destination clients who want the desert vibe, so we love helping them bring their vision and love story to life. Within the industry, we are known for being friendly and fun! While we take our work seriously, we do not take ourselves too seriously and use that to connect with other entrepreneurs as well as our clients.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We both agree that we wish we would have either gone part-time or left our other jobs sooner to open up the time and space for Your Jubilee. As mentioned before, once we left our full-time jobs and created the space to fully focus on YJ our calendars began filling up. We find so much more joy and fulfillment doing what we do now then what we did before. Other then that there is not much more we would change because we have been really strategic and lucky as business owners.
