Meet McKayla Oaks-Hermosillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to McKayla Oaks-Hermosillo.

McKayla, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey in photography started my Freshman year of high school. I enrolled in the photography course and instantly fell in love. I rolled my own film, developed my own film, developed my own photos and mounted my photos every week. I was hooked!!! I only wanted to take pictures, it was my escape! I ended up staying in the photography course all four years of high school. I took digital photography courses in college but ended up getting my Associate in Early Childhood and a Bachelor in Psychology. About a year and a half ago my husband bought me brand new Canon and I started posting my photos on Facebook and that is when my business took off! I book sessions every week and it has stayed pretty consistent for the last year and a half!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My only obstacle is being able to juggle being a momma to three beautiful kiddos and growing my dream! I am a stay at home momma and I do my photography sessions on the weekends when my husband is home but sometimes the kiddos come along with me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My big focus in my photography journey is photographing families and children. I love doing maternity, then fresh 48 and then newborn, I love being a part of the journey!

What were you like growing up?
As a child I was very outgoing and loved anything art related, my four year old daughter Maddyx reminds me of myself when I was little. I wouldn’t be surprised if she followed my footsteps. I loved looking at pictures as a kid and would always go through my grandma’s albums when I was little. Now I get to create memories for all my clients.
