Meet Maya Henaff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Henaff.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I began my love of art in my home country of Poland. I was always fascinated by the works of Chagall and Van Gogh. I was always studying elements of design and unique use of color in the natural world. I loved the changing color of the light, the contrasting shadows and visual textures nature provided for my work through my high school and college years while studying art.

I left Poland over 25 years ago for New York City to re-unite with my mother .I was creating window displays for fashion boutiques and jewelry stores . Later I was working in the fashion industry as a stylist and consultant .During the time ,I was studying oil painting with well-established painter and teacher Susana Anastasia and also taking classes at the Art League of New York. 13 years ago I moved to Arizona , where I took up painting full time
All the time I working to create my own style of painting. I’m using only pallet knife to create my art. I love the contrast of bold color application and fine lines “cut” into color with the side of the pallet knife. I love to create a lot of texture in my work. I’m mixing my paint directly on canvas. My favorite subject to paint are trees and woods landscaping. I’m thinking about my style of painting as a modern classical impressionist. Using a pallet knife help me to create a very strong three dimensional felling. Patches of bold colors create almost illusion of digital image.

Please tell us about your art.
I like to use a bold color to stimulate your senses and in the same time create a sense (because nature) of comfort.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Just paint from your heart and don’t be afraid to break rules.
