Meet Max Getz, CPA of Casey & Company CPAs, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Max Getz, CPA.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Max. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was raised in Northern California and attended Sacramento State University, where I earned my degree in Accounting. While in school I began working at KPMG providing tax services to large business and their owners. During the first handful of years I enjoyed the challenge of providing tax compliance services to large entities, but would soon realize, I preferred working with entrepreneurs who owned smaller, privately held businesses.

I recognized the positive impact I could offer an entrepreneur during the growth phase of their business. I also love working with individuals who are focused on building their own personal wealth, and I want to make sure they are doing it in the most tax efficient way possible. Providing solutions and advice to clients while trying to improve their financial life is the most rewarding part of my career.

After six years of working for large firms in Northern California, I decided to pursue building my own practice. The affordability and business-friendly environment of Arizona was the perfect place for me to start. In the heat of the summer, my wife and I decided to move our family of four to Gilbert, AZ.

After arriving in Arizona I met TJ Casey, an accomplished CPA, who owns a thriving practice in Mesa. He offered to bring me on to help manage his tax practice while growing my own book of business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Tax accounting is a difficult subject to learn when you are fresh out of college–it takes years of experience to get to a point where you can add value to an entrepreneur’s life. I was fortunate enough to begin my career at a firm that valued training. Many experienced CPAs were willing to mentor me as I transitioned from textbook knowledge to real life experience. After dedicating time learning my craft, the challenge of continued growth as a CPA arose.

Ultimately, I found satisfaction in helping entrepreneurs find success in their business. I love watching my clients implement the tax efficient strategies we have discussed in our meetings together. I view myself as an advisor to my clients, and not just as someone who takes care of tax compliance. Earning my clients’ trust is a motivator that drives me to continually expand my knowledge, and provide the best service possible.

I was very proud of myself for passing the CPA exam at a young age.
