Meet Matthew and Nicole Potter of The HYSS Group of Stunning Homes Realty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew and Nicole Potter.

Matthew and Nicole, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Back when the real estate market crashed, by dumb luck, I met my now wife Nicole Allen (now Nicole Potter). We were working at a company helping homeowners avoid foreclosure. The company decided to shut down in 2009 and Nicole and I started The HYSS Group (or at the time Help You Short Sell) where we helped real estate agents and homeowners all over the country with completing short sales and avoiding foreclosure. After three years of doing this, we ventured into full-service real estate with doing short sales, helping buyers, helping sellers and investor clients with being able to achieve their goals.

After our first year, we grew our team and brought on a transaction coordinator, a buyers agent and then it grew from there. We now have four buyers agents, a full-time transaction manager. So far in 2019, we have helped 93 families buy or sell a home and should help another 40-50 before the year is over! While we were doing all this we also started dating in 2015, had a son in 2016, were married in 2017, Matt adopted Nicole’s daughter in 2018 and we had our rainbow baby in October of 2018. We are a slightly busy family but love all the fun it brings to our household and our clients love the dynamic between us and watching our little family grow!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth is in the eye of the beholder….there have been many challenges, growing pains, learning to trust that you are doing the right thing for yourself and your clientele. There have been some struggles as there always is in life but we’ve overcome all of them and found ways to help our clients achieve their goals in a more timely, economical and calm way then before. If you aren’t learning, you aren’t growing.

One particular struggle was paperwork as there can be a LOT of paperwork. Once we realized yikes this is a lot and we aren’t being as efficient as we should, we hired our transaction manager who within 24 hours had us all caught up and in a great position. Knowing your strengths and deficiencies is a very important factor to keep your road smooth.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The HYSS Group of Stunning Homes Realty – what should we know?
We are a team of Residential Resale and New Build Realtors that represent buyers and sellers. As I had mentioned, our specialty and niche has always been short sales but that isn’t all we do. While we are extremely successful at helping homeowners avoid foreclosure, we also work tirelessly for our clients to help them sell for top dollar or buy for the best terms possible. We are most proud of the fact that our clients become our friends or Framily if you will.

We watch them go through the most important parts of their lives (weddings, children, graduations, downsizing) and we pride ourselves on being there from the first house they buy to the last home they ever own. I think what sets us apart from others is that we truly do what is 100% in the best interest of our clients. We’ve had clients who have thought they would only get a certain sales price, we meet with them, work out some things and routinely help them get a much better deal. We have a motto of being known as “REALtors” because of our no-nonsense approach to helping.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We have had so many great mentors, teachers, etc. Some of our biggest supporters are our past clients which there are too many to name. Our broker is very supportive and helps us grown our business with bouncing ideas off of each other, tweaks to our model, etc. The largest amount of credit goes to our clients who continue to use us and refer us to their family and friends.
