Meet Matthew Koslovich of Peoria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Koslovich.

Matthew Koslovich

Hi Matthew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey as a photographer as a kid, holding a disposable Kodak camera. It was so fun hearing the click of the camera and being able to capture whatever I wanted. It just progressed and snowballed from that point. Some years later, I was on a tour at Taliesin West, and a stranger told me that they noticed my knack for finding unique angles, and that is just something that stuck with me and helped kindle a growing spark and love of photography. In 2016, I went to Walmart and bought a Canon Rebel, and I have been working to build my portfolio ever since.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. I have had plenty of periods where I seriously thought about hanging up my camera for good. Photography is one of those hobbies that is deceptively easy to start and can suck you in. After getting sucked in, you understand it’s a very competitive and time-consuming hobby. Like most anything, there will always be someone who does it better, which means you can always learn something. This is especially true with photography. It’s a constant learning experience. You cannot stop learning about the hobby’s ins, outs, and all-around to compete with others. It’s a hobby I love, though, and I won’t stop practicing and capturing the beauty of our world.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional freelance photographer. I specialize in a low/minimal edit style of photography. What I mean by that is that I don’t use Photoshop or any other in-depth editing software. Doing this allows me to showcase the natural beauty that is present in the world we live in. As a photographer, I have photographed personal portraits, weddings, unique cars, and beautiful shots of nature. I would say that the diversity of my portfolio is an aspect that can set me apart from others in my field. By not limiting myself, I can always work on something new and different to keep my portfolio fresh and fun.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
One of my favorite aspects about Peoria is its quiet and cleanness. It’s a solid city and has plenty of food options to choose from. If I had to pick a dislike, I would say the current lack of “things to do” within Peoria. Aside from bars and movie theaters, your options will be pretty limited without traveling to one of the other cities in the Greater Phoenix Area.
