Meet Matt Watson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Watson.

Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in a small town of 3,000 in middle Michigan to a single mother. She wanted more for me and got me involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. It was early on that I learned the magic of what a person can do to positively impact another. Since then, my Big Brother and Big Sister are still part of my family with my three sons referring to them as Meema and Papa.

I am now a Big Brother to a Little that is a sophomore at NAU with large ambitions.

Because of the gift I was given at a young age, it has been my mission in life to give back to others. I am very fortunate to have that platform with my State Farm Agency. I am the Champion of a non-profit, The Kindness Revolution- Mesa where we focus on spreading kindness through a variety of Kindness Bracelets. A way of paying it forward and thanking people for kindness we witness.

I am an active member of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce and continue to be involved with multiple non-profit organizations while also staging drop zones for food pantries, and contributing to local underprivileged families. Being across the street from Red Mountain High School, we get involved with multiple programs throughout the year.

As I mentioned, I’m a father of three boys, Jaxson 8, Hogan 6, and Gibson 3. I am also a husband to my wonderful wife Breena. I am active with the Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and multiple other non-profits. I coach wrestling for the Queen Creek Youth Wrestling Club and love camping with my family.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a child to a single mother, I did not have access to the gifts many people around me had. I was fortunate to have positive influences along the way and the desire to be more.

I took this ambition and used it as fuel through college and my career with The Sherwin-Williams Paint Company. I found myself with a desire to gain a Masters Degree. So, with a small child and a traveling job, I went back to school to continue to better myself. I now have an MBA in Executive Management from Ohio University. This could have been the most challenging time as we balanced life and spend two years not watching football and staying in on weekends. It was early morning studying before work and evening exams and homework after kids were in bed.

As I started my own business, we had to make a sacrifice to allow me to be home every night for dinner and to allow my wife time to breath. With any great endeavor, sacrifice must happen. We’ve found ways to excel through courage, faith, and ambition.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Matt Watson State Farm – what should we know?
I am a Risk Advisor. At Matt Watson State Farm, we’re a little different from other companies. We help people manage their everyday risks.

My team and I sit down with you and understand what is important to you and develop a plan to ensure that if something happens, your family is protected and taken care of.

When I set out to create an Insurance Agency different from the rest, it was because I wanted to be home with my family, do something on my own, and help people. So, what am I most proud of… every day we have an opportunity to educate families and make sure they know what and why they are paying for something. In addition, we have a platform that allows my family and team to give back to the community that continues to give to me.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When we look back, it will not be about the amount of money we’ve made, it will be about the people we’ve protected. Success is when someone leaves your office and says “Thank you, no one has ever had a conversation like that with me.” Success is seeing the smile or tears of happiness when you are able to help someone in need. Success is being Kind to everyone and sharing that with your community. Financial success will come with hard work and giving.
