Today we’d like to introduce you to Marylexe Diaz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up with a single mom, but I was always surrounded by my family. I always knew I wanted to do well in life to pay my family back for all their sacrifices so I worked hard in school. In high school I was always studying and spent all my time in the library. I lived with my tios and tias growing up. Since i was The first grandchild they always saw me as a daughter figure. I went to university but came home due to depression. I didn’t go back because I wasnt sure what I wanted to major in. I’ve always loved learning so I decided to get my associates and wait to see what I decided on. I worked doing social work before I had my baby and decided to work in my tios bakery to try and promote it before the light rail on central finishes up. The business has been around for 15+ years but it’s been so slow ever since construction started. I’ve helped my tio with social media, as well as making the menus for the restaurant.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My dad was in and out of jail which was something I’ve struggled with. I also have had anxiety and depression almost my entire life. Once i hit my twenties i learned about my adhd and have since been able to manage it a lot better.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m currently working in my uncles bakery/restaurant and pursuing content creation. I love fashion, crochet, food, family, and being able to put it all in one place online. I’m proud of my families business. We’ve had the bakery for over 15 years, supplying hot dog bread and telera throughout the valley. Almost three years ago they decided to open up a restaurant as well. I try my best to take care of my families business. I’ve been at the restaurant since it opened. I love how this community is so small and we have many regular customers. I’m able to get to know them by face and name, and that’s something really special to me. I love South phoenix because this is where I grew up. I’m proud of our community and representing it
What matters most to you?
My family matters most to me. Before having my baby, I heard a lot of negativity surrounding motherhood. My son is almost six months now and has brought me and my loved ones so much love and joy. Motherhood has been challenging but the most rewarding and beautiful thing I’ve experienced.
