Meet Mary Davisson of Details Wedding and Event Planning in Central Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Davisson.

Mary, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At a very young age, I knew weddings were what I was destined for. Growing up in an Italian family, weddings were a big ordeal and always an amazing time. I was raised dancing to the Electric Slide, catching bouquets as a young child, and watching as my cousins marry people they loved very much. Weddings were always a time that family came together and they were some of my fondest memories.

While in high school, I learned all about the hospitality industry and knew it would be my career path. It felt right! It was an easy choice to go to NAU for my degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management and to pursue my dream of planning weddings and events. After graduating from NAU, I became an Event Coordinator at the historic Wrigley Mansion, which solidified my love for weddings and events. I learned so much with this position, grew into my career, and ultimately met my now fiance!

Fast forward a few years, I decided to break away and begin my Wedding and Event Planning business in Phoenix. For the past four years, I’ve seen my business grow year after year, adding elements to my business I never thought possible, and looking forward to the future for big things to come. Being an entrepreneur is so rewarding; knowing every decision you make, is a decision that will make a change. I finally feel like I am working for something bigger than myself and building a legacy for future planners. While working for yourself has it’s ups and downs, watching this business of mine grow is the most rewarding thing I’ve done for my career!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being an entrepreneur has it’s struggles, not knowing where your next paycheck is coming from, going months without signing a new client, feeling like you’re constantly comparing yourself to all of the amazing business owners in my market, none of it is easy. However, you have to build yourself up and know that maybe this just isn’t my month, but next month will be better. It’s about supporting yourself 100%, even when it feels like you’re alone in it because you know what you’re capable of accomplishing. Everyone has different seasons of success, so there is no point in comparing!

Details Wedding and Event Planning is a full service planning company. We specialize in design and coordination and work as a team with our clients and vendors. We want to feel like a true planning partner at your wedding, not like we are taking over the show. It’s important for the couple to feel included in their planning process. While utilizing an online collaborative planning tool, they can follow along as we plan the most important day in their relationship. We work very closely with them to ensure their vision is executed flawlessly.

Additionally, we are also a “no frills” kind of wedding planning company. We believe in true hospitality and showing your guests a wonderful time and experience, and sometimes that means scaling back on some of the extras that come naturally to planning a wedding. It’s all about quality vendors, providing the best services, which allows for a seamless evening for our clients and their guests. We like to take it back to the basics of weddings! Great entertainment, delicious food and drinks, and a beautiful setting will allow for a great base to plan your day.

As a company, I would say I am most proud of the relationships we’ve made along the way. It’s a very saturated industry in Scottsdale, so making quality relationships with your vendor team is so crucial to standing out. I don’t take lightly that I’ve become close friends with some amazing creatives and truly value their time and work. Additionally, getting the chance to collaborate with them, while watching them succeed and grow is so exciting for us. As a planner, I get to guide my clients to some of the most amazing wedding vendors that Arizona has to offer, and I would say that it is something I get to be very proud of.

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I was always talking! I wouldn’t shut up! I loved to dance, spend time with my friends and family. I was definitely a social teenager, not much into sports! But I always loved to be out and about doing something with friends!
