Today we’d like to introduce you to Marni Steinberg.
Marni, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Professionally, I have over 25 years of experience in project management and client services, including senior positions in advertising, marketing, public relations, fundraising and event planning. I decided to start iGen Parenting because I was hearing so much about the issues and concerns my friends were experiencing with their older kids. My daughter is currently only in Second Grade, but as I had her when I was turning 40 I believe I already had some wisdom on my side. Time and time I again I have said “I can see the future” through what I am hearing as friends navigate tween and teen life. I wanted a resource in place to provide topical information and I believe that iGen Parenting can be that resource for parents. They always say there is no manual or handbook for being a parent and every kid is different. I believe that but I also think that information from experts can help guide you. iGen Parenting will bring those experts together for you in its monthly sessions and break down some of the important topics you need to know about.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road but what has been wonderful is how many people really embraced the concept of iGen Parenting. As I was out in the community discussing iGen Parenting with people, I had so many people say how excited they were about the program and how it was a resource that was needed in the community. The feedback after the first session echoed that sentiment as people really liked the format of the presentation and the idea that each topic will build upon the previous topic and there is a progression. I also feel like people are looking for parenting resources and so I am working to provide that in a format where you enjoy attending the sessions.
We’d love to hear more about your organization.
The idea of iGen Parenting it is not only to provide speakers who are experts in their field who bring information directly to parents but also to build up the community by having parents able to share with each other as they tackle everyday situations with their kids. As a parent myself, I believe the iGen Parenting series will inform parents by providing them with expert advice and information on a host of important topics like drugs, cyber-safety, tolerance, and emotional wellness. The experts will share information that is not only relevant but timely because these are constantly evolving issues and I’ve selected people who can speak to what is happening right now here locally in Phoenix. The other unique piece about the series is the topics build upon each other and I believe we will see references from one speaker to the next in the overall context of parent education and support.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The ability to never give up. I have hit some stumbling blocks along the way as I have been working to create iGen Parenting but no matter what has happened I just have told myself that I need to keep going because I feel like the benefit of the program to the community is worth working through it.
