Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Suleiman.
Hi Mark, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to Santa Fe, NM, where I started working with my older brother at the flea markets where we sold Native American jewelry. I started saving money to sell my own jewelry at the markets from 1992 to 1997. I sold as much as possible at markets, saving every penny, before finally being able to open my first store in Santa Fe in 1997. It wasn’t until 2010 that I could open my second location with the support of my family. These experiences shaped many of my core values and made me and my businesses what we are today. I am lucky to have truly experienced the American dream.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The family has always come first in my life and has driven my desire for success. 2010 was my most challenging year. Shortly after opening my second location, I lost my brother. Despite the urge to give up, I found encouragement through honoring him throughout my stores.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
Work ethic is key to any success and is what I pride myself on. I have been blessed with great success, but always strive to improve my businesses. From 1992 to 2010, I never took a day off. There was always more I could be doing. While this can cause strain in one’s personal life, I knew it would all be worth it when I could provide my family with a stress-free life.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most impactful thing I’ve learned is that your relationship with people is the most important aspect. Whether it’s clients, employees, business relations, or our community, the people you connect with will take you further than anything else. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the connections I’ve made and the people I’ve learned from.
