Meet Maria Micsunescu in Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Micsunescu.

Maria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Drawing has been with me since I was a kid, my brother and I would spend hours on end drawing comic book and video game characters. Eventually, after many years of practice, frustration and finally mustering up the courage to believe in myself and my craft, I pursued my career as a visual artist.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Immigrating from Europe to the states, coming here as a refuge, my parents instilled in me the importance of hard work, gratitude and the ability to support oneself financially. Though this philosophy has helped me in navigating this, at times, a tumultuous world it did not help cultivate the spirit of risk-taking, which is also commonly known as “following your dreams”.

Being unable to afford college, I had to find other resources to help develop my artistic technique and creative eye. I utilized online tutorials, free workshops, and entered contests that helped in connecting with the art community. Steadily, over the years, I refined my skills and built up confidence in my work, which naturally led me to a career as a professional artist.

Many of us don’t have the great privilege of having financial support in some version or another and find ourselves spending our days doing what we’re not passionate about. But don’t let that discourage you from following your life’s purpose. One day, your day job will be your dream job, so keep working hard, focus on the important things, and with a certainty believe in your divine purpose.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Maria Micsunescu – what should we know?
Taking an idea and being able to create it into something tangible and material, all the while telling a story and connecting with others is something quite special. And that’s largely what motivates me to create and strive to best develop projects for myself and my clients.

Having trained in traditional mediums, I am able to take those skills and translate them to a digital platform, creating flexibility in what I create and who I can share it with. In this day and age, we are able to create and connect in so many ways, which is nothing short of awe-inspiring.

So, depending on the needs of the vision, I utilize a myriad of visual design suites (paint, graphite, digital art, photography, etc.) to get the job done.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Gratitude, perseverance, and a learning spirit. Without this mindset, I would not be able to constantly work on getting technically better when it seems like I am at standstill, face the rejection that comes in this industry, and allow my mind to unwind and reshape itself to think creatively. I consider myself blessed to be able to have this journey towards success.
