Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Voltaire.
Hi Marcus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
In my early college days, I stayed in the gym playing basketball. My roommate invited me to lift with him to improve my size and strength on the court. I fell in love with the weight room and how I manipulated my weight and strength, going from 150 to 165. I was also battling anxiety and depression due to a lack of self-love and purpose. The gym gave me health benefits, improved my life, and taught me more about life than anticipated. I pursued my passion for weightlifting more as I followed my purpose, bringing health awareness and wellness to the forefront. My family was also a big motivator in this journey, not because they fully supported me but because I come from a family where health was not our strong suit. I wanted to change the narrative and trajectory of future generations. I did not want to be another family member who needed medication to live an everyday life. Now, I strive to live at my most optimal fitness level while helping others do the same and benefit from the new life they obtain through fitness.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were a lot of struggles I had to go through to be where I am today, and I don’t expect them to cease any time soon, but the benefits outweigh the negatives with consistency and action planning. Low clientele, rejection, not fitting into the everyday “fun” life, standing alone at events after working on a project for weeks, low revenue in the beginning, and understanding how to do everything in your business are just a few of the obstacles that you will experience when starting a profession in personal training.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. What can you tell our readers who might not be as familiar with your work?
I am a certified personal trainer through ISSA. I specialize in weight gain/muscular hypertrophy and cardiovascular endurance. I’m known for fun, energetic workouts that push you to your limits and get results back with scientific methods. I am most proud of the new life my clients experience and their realization when they see and feel their new life. What sets me apart from others is that I meet you where you are and customize your training to best fit you, not what works for most people with the same fitness goals. I take my clients outside the standard gym setting, and we periodically use the world as our gym.
Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Secret Laws to Success, and a podcast by my good friend 19keys, who talks about consciousness and high-level conversations. I do my best to operate at a high level physically, mentally, and spiritually.
