Meet Manuel Salazar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Salazar.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I started making photos about 3-4 years ago and I didn’t really know what I was doing, I had no formal education in photography I just wanted to shoot, finding my voice with photography was the hardest thing to do aside from the technical aspect. I was all over the place with my subject matter but then I started to take my time when I would shoot and started to pay more attention to my friends and environments around me. making photos of people, places&things that mean something to myself is what felt right.

Please tell us about your art.
I photograph people that don’t usually get their picture taken.
I do this because I feel that representation matters and I’d like to document people that society usually dismisses.
showing a more meaningful side.

I want people to feel inspired to document their own journey in life and show what they see and go through.

my work is not for everyone, it’s not pretty, but it is very real and very raw and honest.

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
social media, it’s a double edge sword because someone can be amazingly talented but not popular so they are like white noise in all of this. you have guys who have no clue how to make or do certain things but they are very savvy when it comes to the internet and know how to market themselves. than you got guys who master their craft for so long but have no clue how to put their work out there so they go unnoticed and unappreciated which is kind of sad.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
right now I just use Instagram to show my photos I feel like trying to keep all these social media channels updated constantly is a hassle but I’ll probably end up opening a website soon just to be able show my work in higher-res. as far as support I sell prints of my photos from time to time so if anyone is ever interested they can just ask about one.
