Meet Malika Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malika Murphy.

Hi Malika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Detroit Michigan, but raised in California and St. Louis, Mo. I have seen so much in my time growing up, to where I wanted to save the world. When moving to Arizona 18 years ago it opened up my eyes to a whole new world, so much opportunity and room for growth. So I started on a venture to capitalize on every opportunity put before me. I was currently working for one of the largest credit card companies in the world for over 13 years of my career. In 2020 I decided to no longer work for any company and work for myself. I wanted to give my last years back to myself and teach my children entrepreneurship and generational wealth.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In 2013 I started a nonprofit 501C3 organization called “Couponing for the Less Fortunate INC. It started teaching communities about saving through couponing, it then ventured to working with the homeless, back 2 school events, thanksgiving give back meals, xmas blessings for families over 1000 toys every year. website: couponingftlf.org, FB & IG; couponingftlf

In July 2020 Sue Soul Food Heaven came into existence. A couple years ago my sister passed away at the age of 43 with a brain aneurysm. Her death took a toll on me, so instead of grieving I decided to do what she has always asked of me and that’s do something with family, my sister loved soul food and music being we are from Detroit. So, we opened up Sue Soul Food Heaven. The day before the first inspection a car plowed from the corner and hit our building taking our 3 pillars. After that was said and done the inspection continued and now wanted more equipment. We finally were open and we came on and the ceiling was leaking and a week later the ceiling collapsed, now we had to close for 2 months. It was just one thing after another but through it all we are still standing. We make sure we “feed the people” no matter the amount in their pockets. We don’t throw away any food , we feed the homeless at night. Starting Jan 1, 2022 Sue’s will be a part of the SNAP EBT hot food program where the homeless, elderly, and the disabled can come in anytime and buy hot food. Sue Soul Food is not just a soul food restaurant it’s a place where you come in and be blessed. website: suesoulfood.com FB&IG; suesoulfoodheaven

I believe all the businesses that started up in the beginning of 2020 already sets me apart from others. There are more business ventures thats not mentioned. I am a driven, motivated, and blessed woman.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Happiness starts from within, if I am not happy with myself I could never be happy with anything or anyone in this world. What truly makes me happy is when I can look at myself in the mirror and smile because I am happy. All the businesses that I am tied to makes me happy because all of them makes a difference and a huge impact in someones life whether its food, basketball, wine, giving back, to empowering women. In order to change the world it has to start with us.
