Meet Malia Battilana of Malia B Photography in Peoria

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malia Battilana.

Malia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a wife, mom of three pretty amazing kids, an addict to anything sweet and a lover of the small details in life that make a big impact.

I knew early on I would be surrounded by children and pursued my degree in Early Childhood Education. Being a teacher confirmed my love for children and the innocence and purity they bring to the world. But then I found that I had this passion for photography and the moments that could be captured. I knew my passion had integrated into my life when I was teaching at school during the day, but dreaming about the photographs I wanted to capture more so than the math I wanted to teach!

Without a doubt, newborn photography is my favorite. The tiny toes, the curled eyelashes and those lips get me every time. My style is authentic, refreshing and timeless.

I’m a sucker for emotion, creativity and being unique with all things.

Today I’ve still integrated my love of teaching into photography as I mentor others in my Peoria studio called The Collective AZ. A space that I’ve turned into for creatives, offering a shared space for other to grow their businesses, learn and form a community.

Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a business is never a smooth road but I don’t mind failing, that’s where I learn the most, grow the most and keeps me grounded. I’ve forgotten sessions, mixed up images, didn’t charge enough for my services but it’s a learning curve. Surrounding yourself with like minded supporters is easier to get through all the struggles.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Malia B Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I provide memories for parents that last a lifetime. I help them capture the firsts, the milestones and everything else in between. I specialize in maternity and newborn portraiture and am know for my sunset, lake maternity scenes.

I’m most proud that I built this company from scratch and dream. I didn’t cheat my way up, buy likes or content and always figured out various ways to let my clients know I appreciated them. Whether it was going the extra mile for a home visit to hang photos or attending a 1st birthday party.

Building a community and tribe sets me apart. Clients come to me because it’s not just photos I give them, they feel like they belong with other parents who “get it”, no judgment and come as you are and we’ll love the heck out of you!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love how Phoenix has grown up! I’m a native so I remember when people used to visit for the first time and get off the airplane thinking they were going to see cowboys and Indians. Phoenix has always seemed like that little brother that just hasn’t found it marks yet. But within the past 5-8yrs I love how many amazing concept communities and live, work, play spaces are sprouting. We have such an abundance of melting pot culture, nothing is off limits!!
