Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Johnson.
Hi Madison, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been active my entire life. I played sports, many times 2 sports per season. I went to college and knew I wanted to be in the health and wellness world. I majored in exercise and wellness in college and got my bachelors. I was coaching crossfit at the gym my husband and I went to as well. When I found out I was pregnant with my first in 2019, I was SO excited for all the traditional reasons as well as being able to stay fit throughout my pregnancy. I did worked out HARD my entire pregnancy and was praised for that fact. All the while I had very little knowledge of pelvic floor health or what the particular working out I was doing, was doing to my pregnant body. All of that mixed with a traumatic delivery left me pelvic floor in SHAMBLES after giving birth. It wasn’t until I discovered a postpartum training program that I learned about pelvic floor physical therapy and I couldn’t get there soon enough. That combined with specific training to encourage healing changed my life.
With my second pregnancy I was able to properly train throughout my entire pregnancy and my recovery was night and day. This sparked a passion in me to learn all I could about prenatal training (training during pregnancy and postpartum). I was working in corporate wellness at the time and loved being surrounded by that world, but I missed the individualistic nature that came from coaching and teaching classes. It 2023 I decided to get my personal training certification, nutrition coaching certification and start my business reclaiming fit llc. I got my pregnancy and postpartum corrective exercise specialist certification a little while later and have since been training moms who feel they have no time for working out, are overwhelmed trying to figure out what to eat, and are juggling alll the things with kids.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As far as the business goes it has been a huge learning curve. Definitely hasn’t come easy. The coaching is where my passion is and always has been, but owning your own business is a HUGE learning curve that I am definitely still on! Figuring out how to sell myself is new and can be tricky, but remembering WHY I do this is what keeps me going. I am so passionate about bridging the gap of information for pregnant and postpartum women when it comes to how they can move and how they should nourish their bodies.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a fitness and nutrition coach for pregnant and postpartum women. I help women gain energy, confidence and lose the weight. I am passionate about helping women make lifestyle changes so that the results we get together can stick for good this time.
I have helped women lose weight but what I am most proud of is the mental shifts that occur while we work together. I work 1:1 with clients in making nutrition plans, custom workouts and mindset work.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You will never feel ready, so just start. Whether that is a business or changing your lifestyle habits, choose today to do ONE thing to get you closer to the future you want. You won’t be perfect but every single day is a new day to choose to do that one thing. You are the writer of your future, so make it the best it can be.
