Meet Lynne Gabrielson of Pixie Dust Marketing in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne Gabrielson.

Lynne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a second generation native of Arizona, and love everything about Arizona. Even the heat! I graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelors degree in communications. I always knew from a young age that I wanted to be in advertising. My career started out in advertising agencies, then moved into the sales side of advertising. East Valley Tribune was my home for 3 years. Once I learned everything I possibly could have about print advertising, I moved to KTVK Channel 3 in their digital department and began learning everything I could about digital advertising.

I worked at KTVK Channel 3 for just under 2 years when one of my clients offered me a position to run their marketing department for a local hearing aid company. This was my dream job. While working there I gained more responsibility and was helping run the business.

One day while chatting with a close friend I passively mentioned why am I running a business for someone else and not for me? My friend said do it, I responded with I could never run my own business. Two days later Pixie Dust Marketing was born.

Pixie Dust Marketing has been in business now for almost two years. We will celebrate our 2nd birthday July 16th.

Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? I would love to say yes, but of course that would not be the truth. Like every small business we have had our bumps in the road. One of Pixie Dust Marketing’s biggest hurdles and best lessons learned actually came from Facebook. Pixie Dust Marketing offers social media marketing services. This is actually one of our best selling services. One Friday morning I walk into the office thinking this is going to be a pretty easy Friday. May even be able to leave early today. I then log in to our Facebook account and our account had been disabled by Facebook. After the initial freak out happened, we then learned why this happened. We were doing Facebook ads for a local multi level marketing business, which we had no idea that multi level marketing business were not allowed. Luckily, Pixie Dust Marketing was able to get in touch with Facebook and have our account back up and running by that afternoon. Now everyone at Pixie Dust Marketing knows the ins and outs of Facebook advertising rules to make sure this never happens again.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Pixie Dust Marketing story. Tell us more about the business.
As a pretty big Disney fan I wanted the name of my business to incorporate my two loves, Disney and marketing. During a lazy Saturday morning in mid July 2016 I decided to watch the movie Saving Mr. Banks while brainstorming a name for this new company I wanted to start. It was the scene where Walt Disney was on TV talking about Tinker Bell and how Pixie Dust can make you fly. I then Googled the definition of Pixie Dust which is:

pix·ie dust
noun
a substance or influence with an apparently magical effect that brings great success or luck.

What does effective marketing do? It brings great success. So then Pixie Dust Marketing was born. We like to think we are spreading the glittery dust all over business to help them grow. We just do it without the mess of glitter.

Pixie Dust Marketing specializes in Digital and Social Media Marketing. We are a full service advertising agency so what ever your needs are from media buying, web site design, explainer videos, to consulting, we are here to service small to mid sized Arizona businesses.. Social Media and Behavioral Targeting also known as Programmatic are our two most popular services.

One area that sets us apart from our competition is 1. Customer Service. Just like our clients Pixie Dust Marketing is a small local business. No matter what your needs are every clients speaks with me. If there is an issue they come to me and I help them resolve the issue. The clients never get handed off to another person. The second area that sets us apart is we have recently became partners of a marketing data collection agency and have access to Facebook Audience Categories that aren’t available to general Facebook advertisers.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Since Pixie Dust Marketing focuses on digital advertising there will be huge changes in the next 5-10 years. We may not even know what these changes will be. Programmatic advertising is only 5 years old, and this is completely changing the way businesses advertise online. And Facebook advertising seems to change every 6 months or so.

Pixie Dust Marketing makes sure that we stay up to date on all the trends and changes that will take place in digital advertising. The one thing you can always expect in business is change!
