Meet Lucia Franco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucia Franco.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My parents gifted me my first point and shoot camera when I was 13 years-old. I would take it out with my girlfriends and we would have our own mini “photoshoots.” I took pictures of everything I could, until one summer, my family and I went to California and I got sand inside the camera lens. My freshman year of highs school I took beginning photography, where I learned how to develop film.

Throughout high school the only camera I used was the one on my cell phone. Upon graduating high school, my mom bought a Canon t3i. Whenever my mom wasn’t recording my sister’s cheer competitions, or taking pictures of the backyard, I was teaching myself how to use the camera. I never considered myself a “photographer” at that point, it was just a hobby to me. Eventually Instagram took off and I saw all of these amazing photographers with their fancy cameras and incredible work. I knew I could never be that good, so I put the camera down and continued to create content using my iPhone.

Last year I decided to pick the camera up again. I studied other photographer’s work, trying to see what “style” inspired me. November 2017 I finally attended my first photo retreat, Abide. It was hosted by two photographers that I have been following from the beginning, Susanna Risser and Christine Farmer. This retreat taught me more about myself and who I can be as a photographer. I am forever thankful for Susanna, Christine, and the ladies of Abide for giving me the confidence I have today.

When I returned home from the retreat I branded myself as ‘Lucia Victoria Photo’ and connected with Kory Miller, who designed my logo.

Please tell us about your art.
When you look in the mirror what’s the first thing you see? Do you look at yourself and think “I love ____?” On average, when we look at ourselves in the mirror we analyze and pick ourself apart. My goal is to show the beauty in everyone. I want people to look at photos of themselves and see how beautiful they are. I want my clients to walk away from a session feeling empowered.

For those who come across my Instagram profile, I want viewers to feel the photos. I want you to feel the warmth of the sun, to hear the laughs, to look at the photos and feel cozy.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Art doesn’t have a standard. Create what makes YOU happy. Social media will always be there, but don’t let it discourage you, instead follow people who inspire you to create.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can see my work via Instagram and Facebook. I also have an account on Society6 if you would like to purchase prints.
