Meet Loren Howard of Prime Plus Mortgages – Hard Money Lenders Phoenix in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Loren Howard.

Loren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been an intense and driven person, so it’s no surprise that I ended up becoming a serial entrepreneur. When I was a kid, I was laser-focused on sports, anything from skateboarding to basketball until the football coach came and told me my future was on the field. I tried it out and was hooked ever since. This switch went off, and it pushed me to become the biggest, fastest and strongest player I could be. I chose to go to Northwestern to pursue my education and football career.

Playing college football was an amazing experience. My freshman year, I was a Freshman All American Defensive End, and Big Ten Defensive Freshman of the year. Sophomore year, I was All-Conference Defensive End, and Junior year preseason Mel Kiper ranked me the second defensive end to go in the draft. The third pick went first in the draft (Mario Williams) and the guy ahead of me went 10th that year in the draft. Unfortunately, I got injured and never really recovered properly and couldn’t complete at the same level. That made me switch gears and pursue going into business for myself. 

Alt Web Media was my first successful company that was focused on graphic design and website packages. I transitioned this company into lead generation and made my first million. When it was time to phase out the lead generation business, I got involved in the medical industry, and I focused on building that until I was approached to start lending. As a real estate investor myself, I wanted to help expand the real estate investing space in my hometown.

My primary business is now Prime Plus Mortgages- Hard Money Lenders Phoenix. I saw there was an opening for fast hard money loans for like-minded real estate investors. I have my eyes set on becoming the top lender in Arizona. I full-heartedly believe that if you aren’t committed to growth and learning, you will never take things to the next level. I have always been focused on learning more, and my curiosity and drive are what have brought me to where I am today. I am a big risk-taker, and just love to chase the next big idea to see where it leads.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
After my football injury, and realizing I couldn’t play college football at that level again, I fell into a dark place. I had been so hyper-focused on that aspect of my life, it was a real shock to the system to have to start over. I attended a Tony Robbins Seminar, and it made me change my perspective and kick-start the next chapter of my life. I took that focus and shifted it to becoming a more principled and well-rounded person. Business was new to me, and I had a lot to learn, so I applied myself to learning something new every day.

The very first company I jokingly call my ‘MBA’, which taught me the rules of business and money, and the most important skill any businessman needs, networking. That company didn’t go anywhere, but I learned so much from it and it made me grow. Thanks to those relationships and hard lessons from my injury, and my first business, I was able to get to where I am today.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is where preparation meets opportunity, and because of my avid love to learn new things, I am more prepared than not. I have overcome so much in my life, and worked so hard, that it isn’t luck that brought me here today, but my own drive. I make a point to learn new things and to keep asking and answering questions. I don’t take excuses and push myself to become a better version of myself everyday. I’m an avid learner and book reader.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
This is my 4th company to reach 7 and 8 figures, so it is validating to be able to duplicate success across industries. I made a point to be as disciplined and principled as I could be to grow my businesses and continue to push myself to create efficient and profiting companies. I have been able to build the company around my lifestyle and priorities. Building teams, morale, and being able to coach and mentor is important to me. I am proud of having built an amazing team that goes above and beyond to make it happen.
