Today we’d like to introduce you to Lola King.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lola. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a busy mother of two, owner of a beautiful German Shepherd, wife, business owner, and constant student in the world of aromatherapy. I found my true calling years ago in helping others in small ways and continue to do so through my essential oil company Be Kind Botanicals.
I started my business in the Fall of 2013 and have continued to slowly grow it using an ethical, honest, and kind approach. By sharing my knowledge and test reports for my products, I encourage others to use essential oils in a balanced and safe way to ensure that all of my clients are able to utilize them for a life time and support the sustainability of using all of the essential oils that are currently available to us. My approach in combining kind and positive empowerment to users of essential oils is a mindset that will never change.
My training includes that from Aromahead School of Essential Oils (400+ hours of coursework that includes physiology and anatomy), Robert Tisserand’s Advanced Certification program for Essential Oil Chemistry and Pharmacology, Cathy Skipper’s Hydrosol Certification course, and am currently enrolled in the Atlantic Institute of Aromatherapy’s Essential Oil Correspondence program in addition to my current self studies.
I currently hold the title of Registered Aromatherapist (RA) from the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC). I’m also an active member and State Co-Representative for the Alliance of International Aromatherapists (AIA).
On a personal note, I would like to say that my journey of learning about essential oils has been one of a spiritual nature as well. I thoroughly enjoy the chemistry, the math, and the deep connection I have developed with the plants and the essential oils through my learning. This has allowed me to understand more of myself, my purpose, and even lead me to help others in more meaningful ways that are associated to my business.
My vision or mission if you will for my company is simple. I want to spread kindness one drop at a time through my company so that my company is seen as a beacon of truth, integrity, honesty, and kindness in a world filled with too much negativity.
You can always reach me directly at lola.king@BKBotanicals.com if you are interested in learning more about essential oils or have questions about essential oils.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh I wish it had been a smooth road! I’ve rebranded and changed my business name once since starting out in order to overcome confusion and give more clarity to what I offer. I’ve also had to learn many things like marketing and website design so I can put myself out there. One of my biggest struggles is not having a brick and mortar due to the high overhead that comes with it – hence learning marketing which is definitely not my forte.
Please tell us about your business.
I offer pure, affordable essential oils to help support a holistic lifestyle. We all want pure essential oils. However, with adulteration becoming so much more rampant in our industry, it makes it difficult to know who you can trust.
Because I test every single batch of essential oils I offer and post those results on the corresponding product page, this sets me apart from many – even the big players. With big companies, they make you buy product before you can even see anything. If they show you the results.
It isn’t just about selling essential oils for Be Kind Botanicals. It’s about having a real and deep connection to the plants that our essential oils are obtained from. It’s also about understanding what sustainability means for each essential oil we offer.
This is why whenever possible I try to work directly with plants in harvesting and distilling. This gives me more insight to the amount of plant material that is required, the work, and the passion artisan distillers use to obtain the essential oils that we offer.
Another huge difference is that I work with artisan distillers versus commercial distillers. This allows me to support other small operations that offer the highest quality aromatics available. Artisan aromatics also tend to be much more vibrant and effective at supporting a holistic lifestyle than commercially distilled ones.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Right now I am currently working on a new website theme design that I hope to launch in early 2020. It will be a big change from the seven year old theme I’ve been using. I also have plans visit Greer this Summer for some distilling – it is the only place in Arizona that you can find Engelmann Spruce!
