Meet Liz McBride

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz McBride.

Liz, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Liz, and I am The Holistic Nurse. I was born and raised in southern California but ventured to Arizona State University to study marketing, and also happened to meet my husband along the way.

I studied nursing at New York University after realizing that a career in advertising wasn’t for me. I am now a registered nurse in New York, California and Arizona. After working as a nurse, and having my first two kids, I wanted to learn more about nutrition and natural health. Somewhere between baby number two and baby number three, I went back to school, this time to study holistic nutrition to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, which I completed about a year and a half ago.

I have always been a health conscious individual, but having children intensified that. Our family has food allergies, asthma, ADHD, eczema, thyroid dysfunction, depression and anxiety, and I wanted something more than just prescription medication. Holistic nutrition considers the whole body and understands that people are all bio-individual; that a one size plan doesn’t fit all. It looks at the root cause of an illness, or symptoms, and works to heal the body using nutrient dense, real, whole foods.

The Holistic Nurse is my journey as a wife and mom of three, that combines my nursing and nutrition backgrounds, to share healthy food ideas for the whole family, as wells as natural alternatives to keeping our family healthy and happy.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. I have three degrees that have taken me on very different journeys, and somehow they now all work together in a way I never could have imagined. It’s hard to see the big picture when you are going through the valleys, but I always knew God had a bigger plan for me, so I trusted that it would all come together at some point.

Tell us more about your practice.
The Holistic Nurse is a journey through motherhood, sharing what I have learned over the years in regards to holistic living, nutrition and taking care of my family. The Holistic Nurse aims to educate those on how to cook and eat real, whole foods. There isn’t one diet that works for everyone, but eating real, whole foods is a great place to start if you want to feel better.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in hard work and determination to get what you want. I have had good moments and bad moments in life, and those dark moments have shaped me into the person I am today and have made me a stronger woman along the way.
